Insect-Foundation: A Foundation Model and Large Multimodal Dataset for Vision-Language Insect Understanding [PDF]
Multimodal conversational generative AI has shown impressive capabilities in various vision and language understanding through learning massive text-image data. However, current conversational models still lack knowledge about visual insects since they are often trained on the general knowledge of vision-language data.

Shrimp Virus Regulates ROS Dynamics via the Nrf2 Pathway to Facilitate Viral Replication
Viruses manipulate host ROS as a strategy to achieve successful infection. WSSV exploits Nrf2 pathway to maintain ROS homeostasis and establishes a positive feedback loop to facilitate WSSV replication. Wsv220 competitively binds to Keap1 to activate Nrf2. Nrf2 up‐regulates LvG6PDH to produce more NADPH and GSH to eliminate excessive ROS.

The Integrative Physiology of Insect Chill Tolerance.
Cold tolerance is important in defining the distribution of insects. Here, we review the principal physiological mechanisms underlying homeostatic failure during cold exposure in this diverse group of ectotherms.

There is a great lack of uniformity in labeling insects; owing to which it is often impossible to distinguish the name of the locality from that of the collector; and with reference to the date of capture, it is impossible to discover what is meant (when the day of capture is less than the 13th), on account of some collectors placing the day of the ...

Mitochondria across the entire neuromuscular system have been comprehensively reconstructed at different developmental stages using 3D electron microscopy. Fundamental structural principles related to synaptic function are preserved across development, and these morphologies are adapted to ensure effective neural circuit function.

How forest insect outbreaks depend on forest size and tree distribution: an individual-based model results [PDF]
In this work, an individual-based model of forest insect outbreaks is presented. The results obtained show that the outbreak is an emerging feature of the system. It is a common product of the characteristics of insects, the environment in which the insects live, and the way insects behave in it. The outbreak dynamics is an effect of scale.
