Genetic Diversity Increases Insect Herbivory on Oak Saplings
A growing body of evidence from community genetics studies suggests that ecosystem functions supported by plant species richness can also be provided by genetic diversity within plant species. This is not yet true for the diversity-resistance relationship as it is still unclear whether damage by insect herbivores responds to genetic diversity in host ...

Root‐focused resistance in chicory reduces defenses in leaves, impairing root aphids but enhancing foliar aphid performance. Selecting root resistance can create unintended trade‐offs across plant organs. Abstract BACKGROUND Plants are constantly exposed to a wide range of herbivores at both aboveground (AG) and belowground (BG) levels, involving ...

Managing pests by increasing predators through late termination of cover crops
Adding cover crops to crop rotations can improve the sustainability and ecosystem functioning of agroecosystems. By delaying cover‐crop termination, growers can effectively increase natural enemy populations and reduce the need for chemical controls. Abstract BACKGROUND Adding cover crops to crop rotations can improve the sustainability and ecosystem ...

Landscape-scale land use is important in driving species communities and interactions. However, despite increasing concerns regarding the ecological consequences of insect declines, our understanding of how the relative proportions of different land ...

Genotype‐by‐environment interaction shaped soybean seed stability under contrasting insecticide regimes. Seed longevity emerged as a stable, management‐relevant trait under pest pressure. High‐pressure, no‐insecticide conditions improved discrimination of tolerant genotypes for integrated pest management deployment.

Differential effects of jasmonic acid treatment of Brassica nigra on the attraction of pollinators, parasitoids, and butterflies [PDF]
Herbivore-induced plant defences influence the behaviour of herbivores as well as that of their natural enemies. Jasmonic acid is one of the key hormones involved in both these direct and indirect induced defences.

Behavioural manipulation of Psylliodes chrysocephala provides promising opportunities for sustainable pest management in oilseed rape systems. This review synthesises evidence on glucosinolates and their volatile isothiocyanate derivatives as phagostimulants and attractants, alongside the repellent or antifeedant effects of non‐host plants, plant ...

Higher accumulation of mitragynine in Mitragyna speciosa (kratom) leaves affected by insect attack.
Kratom leaves are widely consumed by locals to increase their stamina for working longer hours in the field. However, insect damage to the leaves can lead to significant loss of leaf harvest. Despite this, there remains considerable uncertainty regarding

Global patterns of insect herbivory in gap and understorey environments, and their implications for woody plant carbon storage [PDF]
Insect herbivory is thought to favour carbon allocation to storage in juveniles of shade-tolerant trees. This argument assumes that insect herbivory in the understorey is sufficiently intense as to select for storage; however, understoreys might be less ...

Soybean induced resistance to Spodoptera eridania herbivory
SOD, CAT, APX, PPO, KTI, and MDA levels were higher in the resistant soybean. S. eridania herbivory increased H2O2 and MDA, but decreased SOD and PPO levels. S. eridania herbivory increased KTI activity only in the resistant variety. Isoquercitrin and daidzin were exclusive to resistant and susceptible soybeans.
