Prioritizing the risk of plant pests by clustering methods : self-organising maps, k-means and hierarchical clustering

open access: yes, 2013
For greater preparedness, pest risk assessors are required to prioritise long lists of pest species with potential to establish and cause significant impact in an endangered area. Such prioritization is often qualitative, subjective, and sometimes biased,

Temperature-Dependent Oviposition Models for Monochamus saltuarius (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae)

open access: yesInsects
Monochamus saltuarius Gebler is a serious insect pest in Europe and East Asia regions, including Portugal, Spain, China, Japan, and Korea. It transfers the pine wood nematode Bursaphelenchus xylophilus to conifer trees, resulting in pine wilt disease ...

Host‐specific and deterministic microbiome assembly in major coleopteran stored‐grain pests

open access: yesiMetaOmics, EarlyView.
Dual DNA‐ and RNA‐based sequencing profiled the microbiomes of five major coleopteran stored‐grain pests and their wheat flour substrate. The microbiomes differed significantly among hosts and from flour, yet 11 core bacterial and 9 core fungal taxa were shared across hosts. RNA data revealed host‐specific active microbiota.

Foliar pests and pathogens of Eucalyptus dunnii plantations in southern Queensland

open access: yes, 2011
Eucalyptus dunnii is grown in plantations in subtropical Queensland, beyond its endemic distribution of northern NSW. As the plantation industry has expanded into subtropical Australia there has been an increase in the incidence of defoliating insects ...

Navigating the future of nano‐pesticides: A perspective on design, efficacy, mechanisms, and environmental stewardship

open access: yesiMeta, EarlyView.
Nano‐pesticides are driving a paradigm shift toward sustainable plant protection. This review systematically synthesizes recent advances across four interconnected domains: (i) intelligent formulation design for targeted delivery and controlled release; (ii) interfacial behavior regulation to enhance foliar deposition; (iii) multi‐omics elucidation of ...

Novel genes for insect resistance in transgenic plants [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
From a cDNA library of potato tuber, cDNAs for the potato carboxypeptidase inhibitors were isolated and characterised by DNA sequencing. One full length clone of each type was used to make plant expression constructs, and these constructs used to ...
