Two Routes to Land: Genomic Underpinnings of Parallel Aerial Egg Deposition in Aquatic Old‐World Pila and New‐World Pomacea (Ampullariidae)

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Comparative genomics of Gondwana‐diverged Pila and Pomacea reveals parallel evolution of aerial oviposition. Convergent chromosomal rearrangements reshape regulatory landscapes within topologically associating domains. Lineage‐specific gene family expansions and viral‐derived perivitelline proteins (PV1) underpin desiccation resistance.

Serine Hydroxymethyltransferase Modulates Midgut Physiology in Aedes aegypti Through miRNA Regulation: Insights from Small RNA Sequencing and Gene Expression Analysis

open access: yesBiomolecules
Aedes aegypti mosquitoes are critical vectors of arboviruses, responsible for transmitting pathogens that pose significant public health challenges. Serine hydroxymethyltransferase (SHMT), a key enzyme in one-carbon metabolism, plays a vital role in ...

Economic Determinants of Invasion and Discovery of Nonindigenous Insects

open access: yes
Introductions of nonindigenous organisms into the United States have been linked to international trade. The individual contributions of imports, immigration, and international travel, however, are poorly understood because introduction dates are ...

Why are crustaceans larger than insects?

open access: yes, 2023
Have you ever thought about the hunger the first humans must have experienced when they ate a lobster for the first time? If we momentarily ignore its succulent flesh and firm texture and focus only on its appearance, one might think that it does not ...

The BnTFL1‐BnJAM3‐BnSWEETs Module Orchestrates Seed Storage Reserve Accumulation in Brassica napus

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
BnaC03.TFL1 and BnaA01.JAM3 form a complex that facilitates the transport of soluble sugars from the seed coat to the embryo by directly activating the expression of BnSWEETs. Furthermore, BnaC03.TFL1 and BnaA01.JAM3 work cooperatively to promote soluble sugar and oil production while suppressing protein deposition.

Unveiling the conserved mechanism of microsporidian vertical transmission: A comparative study of Nosema infection across host species

open access: yesVirulence
Microsporidia, ubiquitous obligate intracellular parasites infecting a wide range of hosts from humans to economically vital animals, employ transovarial transmission (TOT) as their primary vertical transmission mode.

The Trichinella Super‐Pangenome Reveals the Evolution of Encapsulation and Predicted Host–Parasite Protein Interactions

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The muscle capsule of Trichinella is a critical structure that impedes immune attacks and drug penetration, yet the molecular mechanisms underlying its formation remain poorly understood. Using a high‐quality super‐pangenome comprising 12 Trichinella species, we compared extensive genomic variations between encapsulating and non‐encapsulating ...

What are Social Insects?

open access: yes, 1987
The phrase Social Insects commonly brings to our mind the honey bee or ants, but sociality in one form or the other can be seen in many other insects also.

Engineering Microbial Particles for Next‐Generation Biomedical Platforms

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Microbe‐derived particles (MDPs), which include extracellular vesicles, outer membrane vesicles, inclusion bodies, polysaccharide particles, and virus‐like particles, represent a rapidly expanding category of bioinspired nanomaterials. With their natural origin, intrinsic biocompatibility, and highly programmable functionality, MDPs serve as a ...
