Moringa oleifera Lam. As a Herbal Antioxidant‐Enriched Semen Extender in Cryopreservation: A Critical Review of Its Protective Potential

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 1, January 2026.
Moringa oleifera extract protects cryopreserved sperm by scavenging reactive oxygen species and reducing oxidative stress. It enhances antioxidant enzyme activity, including superoxide dismutase, catalase and glutathione peroxidase, thereby maintaining cellular redox balance.

Risks in Surrogacy Considering the Embryo: From the Preimplantation to the Gestational and Neonatal Period

open access: yesBioMed Research International, Volume 2018, Issue 1, 2018., 2018
Surrogacy is an assisted reproduction‐based approach in which the intended parents assign the gestation and birth to another woman called the surrogate mother. The drivers of surrogacy refer largely to infertility, medical conditions, same‐sex couples’ parenting, and cases of diversity regarding sexual identity and orientation.

Epidemiological Trends and Strain Distribution of Bovine Brucellosis in Vaccinated Industrial Dairy Cattle (2021–2024)

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine International, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Brucellosis remains a significant zoonotic disease in Iran, affecting both public health and livestock productivity despite decades of control efforts. This study presents findings from a four‐year nationwide active surveillance program (2021–2024) targeting industrial dairy cattle herds vaccinated with the Brucella abortus RB51 vaccine.

Avian influenza

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 15, Issue 10, October 2017., 2017
Abstract Previous introductions of highly pathogenic avian influenza virus (HPAIV) to the EU were most likely via migratory wild birds. A mathematical model has been developed which indicated that virus amplification and spread may take place when wild bird populations of sufficient size within EU become infected.

Semen cryopreservation and storage in liquid nitrogen: Impact on chromatin compaction

open access: yesAndrology, Volume 13, Issue 7, Page 1780-1796, October 2025.
Abstract Background Sperm cryopreservation is a consolidate option for long‐term male fertility preservation. The freezing/thawing procedure causes detrimental effects to spermatozoa, including damage to viability, motility, membrane composition, and DNA, whereas the effect on sperm chromatin compaction is less studied.

Delaying Motherhood—An Increasingly Common but Risky Trend in High‐Income Countries

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Human Biology, Volume 37, Issue 4, April 2025.
ABSTRACT Objectives Maternal age at first birth is increasing in most high‐income countries. The associations between advanced maternal age and perinatal complications, as well as newborn parameters, were analyzed using a dataset of 6831 singleton births among first‐time mothers taking place in Vienna, Austria, between 2010 and 2019.

Role of oxidative stress and antioxidants in domestic and non-domestic cat spermatozoa [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Living cells, including spermatozoa, stored under aerobic conditions require oxygen to support their normal metabolism. Excessive levels of metabolites (reactive oxygen species; ROS) can cause cell damage or lipid peroxidation.

Expression and functional characterization of chimeric recombinant bovine follicle‐stimulating hormone produced in Leishmania tarentolae

open access: yesMicrobial Biotechnology, Volume 17, Issue 4, April 2024.
There is no recombinant FSH available on the veterinary market. Our study explored the use of Leishmania tarentolae, a non‐conventional eukaryotic organism for recombinant protein expression, for the production of a chimeric single chain version of the β‐ and α‐subunit of bovine FSH (scbFSH).
