[Dyspnea and inspiratory effort capacity in COPD].
Revue des maladies respiratoires, 1994The aim of this work was to study the relationship between dynamic hyperinflation and dyspnoea perception on exercise in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Seven men and three women with COPD (mean FEV1 45.9 +/- 9.8% predicted) were studied.

Increased inspiratory effort in infants with a history of apparent life-threatening event
Acta Paediatrica, 2002The objective of this study was to compare the results of polysomnography between infants with a history of apparent life‐threatening event (ALTE) and controls. In this case‐control study, 40 full‐term ALTE infants, aged 2–36 wk at the time of the event, were compared with 40 age‐ and sex‐matched randomly selected controls.

Evolution of Diaphragm Thickness during Mechanical Ventilation. Impact of Inspiratory Effort
American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, 2015Abstract Rationale Diaphragm atrophy and dysfunction have been reported in humans during mechanical ventilation, but the prevalence, causes, and functional impact of changes in diaphragm thickness during routine mechanical ventilation for critically ill patients are unknown.

Effect of inspiratory muscle fatigue on perception of effort during loaded breathing
Journal of Applied Physiology, 1987The present study examined the relationship between the intensity of the sense of effort during inspiratory threshold loading and the severity of inspiratory muscle fatigue. Studies were performed on normal subjects in whom the magnitude of airway pressure developed (Pm) and the duty cycle of breathing (TI/TT) were constrained to achieve a pressure ...

Quantifying inspiratory effort: a future challenge for ICU nurses?
Intensive and Critical Care NursingMonitoring respiratory effort and implementing lung- and diaphragm-protective ventilation are evolving areas that represent a significant challenge for the ICU team. For nurses, this challenge involves developing advanced skills in mechanical ventilation monitoring to detect early signs of VIDD and P-SILI.

Effects of Resisted Inspiratory Efforts on Immune Cell Mobilization
PhysiologyAcute bouts of physical exercise are a powerful stimulus for leukocyte mobilization into the peripheral circulation, leading to enhanced immunosurveillance and improved immune function when exercise is performed consistently over time. Resistive breathing protocols have emerged as

The relation of inspiratory effort sensation to fatiguing patterns of the diaphragm.
The American review of respiratory disease, 1987Tension in the respiratory muscles and the subsequent intrathoracic subatmospheric pressure swing plays a role in respiratory effort sensation. However, the role of a diaphragmatic fatiguing process in the genesis of this sensation has not been examined.
