Fluid Biomarkers of Disease Burden and Cognitive Dysfunction in Progressive Supranuclear Palsy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Identifying objective biomarkers for progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) is crucial to improving diagnosis and establishing clinical trial and treatment endpoints. This study evaluated fluid biomarkers in PSP versus controls and their associations with regional 18F‐PI‐2620 tau‐PET, clinical, and cognitive outcomes.

Substructures induced by dust drag in protoplanetary disks

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
Dust substructures observed in protoplanetary disks are commonly attributed to embedded planets; however, intrinsic gas-dust interactions can also generate complex morphologies.

FDG‐PET Associations With Disease Severity and Outcomes in NMDA‐Receptor IgG Autoimmune Encephalitis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Patients with N‐methyl‐D‐aspartate (NMDA) receptor‐immunoglobulin G (IgG) autoimmune encephalitis (NMDAR‐IgG AE) demonstrate occipital lobe hypometabolism on baseline brain fluorodeoxyglucose‐positron emission tomography (bFDG‐PET).

Waves and instabilities in rotating free surface flows [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The stability properties of the rotating free surface flow in a cylindrical container is studied using a global stability approach, considering succesively three models. For the case of solid body rotation (Newton’s bucket), all eigenmodes are found to be

Ill-posedness of the shallow-ice approximation when modelling thermoviscous instabilities

open access: yes, 2011
A recent paper by Reference CalovCalov and others (2010) presents an intercomparison of several numerical ice-sheet models where the development of large-scale thermo-viscous instabilities is compared.

A Depolarizing Leak in Sodium Bicarbonate Cotransporter NBCe1 Causes Brain Edema

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives SLC4A4 encodes electrogenic sodium bicarbonate cotransporter NBCe1, prominently expressed in kidney and brain. Recessive loss‐of‐function variants in SLC4A4 cause proximal renal tubular acidosis, no brain edema. In the brain, NBCe1 is expressed by astrocytes, where it regulates pH and mediates astrocyte volume changes.

Instabilities

open access: yes, 2005
What are the mechanisms leading to beam instabilities in circular accelerators? This lecture, intended for physicists and engineers with little or no knowledge on the subject, tries to answer this question.

Relationship Between Neurologic Symptoms and Signs and FMR1 Genotype in Premutation Carriers

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background and Objectives Fragile X‐associated Tremor/Ataxia Syndrome (FXTAS) is the most severe late‐onset condition caused by a premutation in the FMR1 gene, characterized by expanded CGG triplet repeats of 55–200. Clinical presentations of FXTAS, including gait ataxia, kinetic tremor, cognitive decline, and rare Parkinsonism, are linked to ...

Instabilities in storage rings

open access: yes, 1999
The last generation of storage rings is designed to operate with low emittances (longitudinal and transverse) and rather high currents. Performances of these machines are limited by the collective effects.

Dementia Incidence in Individuals With Parkinson's Disease in the Framingham Heart Study

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Limited information exists on incident dementia in individuals with Parkinson's disease (PD) in US community‐based samples. We examined cognitive statuses and PD diagnoses of 183 individuals in the Framingham Heart Study (FHS) to establish incident dementia, mortality rates, associations with sex, age at PD onset, and education level.
