Two-Stream Instability Model With Electrons Trapped in Quadrupoles

open access: yes, 2009
We formulate the theory of the two-stream instability (e-cloud instability) with electrons trapped in quadrupole magnets. We show that a linear instability theory can be sensibly formulated and analyzed. The growth rates are considerably smaller than the

Finger patterns produced by thermomagnetic instability in superconductors [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
A linear analysis of thermal diffusion and Maxwell equations is applied to study the thermomagnetic instability in a type-II superconducting slab. It is shown that the instability can lead to formation of spatially nonuniform distributions of magnetic ...

Elucidating prognostic significance of purine metabolism in colorectal cancer through integrating data from transcriptomic, immunohistochemical, and single‐cell RNA sequencing analysis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Low expression of five purine metabolism‐related genes (ADSL, APRT, ADCY3, NME3, NME6) was correlated with poor survival in colorectal cancer. Immunohistochemistry analysis showed that low NME3 (early stage) and low ADSL/NME6 (late stage) levels were associated with high risk.

Integrated Physical Microstructure and Mechanical Performance Analysis of the Failure Mechanism of Weakly Cemented Sandstone Under Long-Term Water Immersion

open access: yesApplied Sciences
The duration of water immersion significantly affects the mechanical response of rock materials. This study investigated the weakly cemented sandstone from the Wulagen Open-pit Mine to examine how varying immersion times affected the mineral composition,

Low density instability in a nuclear Fermi liquid drop

open access: yes, 1998
The instability of a Fermi-liquid drop with respect to bulk density distortions is considered. It is shown that the presence of the surface strongly reduces the growth rate of the bulk instability of the finite Fermi-liquid drop because of the anomalous ...

Magnetoelliptic Instabilities

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2004
We consider the stability of a configuration consisting of a vertical magnetic field in a planar flow on elliptical streamlines in ideal hydromagnetics. In the absence of a magnetic field the elliptical flow is universally unstable (the ``elliptical instability'').

Comparing self‐reported race and genetic ancestry for identifying potential differentially methylated sites in endometrial cancer: insights from African ancestry proportions using machine learning models

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Integrating ancestry, differential methylation analysis, and machine learning, we identified robust epigenetic signature genes (ESGs) and Core‐ESGs in Black and White women with endometrial cancer. Core‐ESGs (namely APOBEC1 and PLEKHG5) methylation levels were significantly associated with survival, with tumors from high African ancestry (THA) showing ...

Evolution of the recombination regulator PRDM9 in minke whales

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2022
Background PRDM9 is a key regulator of meiotic recombination in most metazoans, responsible for reshuffling parental genomes. During meiosis, the PRDM9 protein recognizes and binds specific target motifs via its array of C2H2 zinc-fingers encoded by a ...

Instability of bound states of a nonlinear Schr\"odinger equation with a Dirac potential [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We study analytically and numerically the stability of the standing waves for a nonlinear Schr\"odinger equation with a point defect and a power type nonlinearity.

Multidimensional OMICs reveal ARID1A orchestrated control of DNA damage, splicing, and cell cycle in normal‐like and malignant urothelial cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the frequently mutated chromatin remodeler ARID1A, a subunit of the SWI/SNF cBAF complex, results in less open chromatin, alternative splicing, and the failure to stop cells from progressing through the cell cycle after DNA damage in bladder (cancer) cells. Created in BioRender. Epigenetic regulators, such as the SWI/SNF complex, with important
