Quantum Listenings: Amateur Sonification of Vacuum and other Noises [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences
The sensory perceptions of vision and sound may be considered as complementary doorways towards interpreting and understanding physical phenomena. We provide a few selected samples where scientific data of systems usually not directly accessible to ...

Unveiling the Nanomorphology of HfN thin Films by Ultrafast Reciprocal Space Mapping

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, Volume 12, Issue 26, September 12, 2024.
Hafnium Nitride (HfN) is a robust alternative to gold for applications of nanoscale metals. Depth‐resolving ultrafast reciprocal space mapping (URSM) is used to unveil the nanomorphology of thin HfN films, which are composed of twofold crystalline grains with equal lattice constant but different size. This influences their optical properties and future

Ω(2012) through the looking glass of flavour SU(3)

open access: yesPhysics Letters B, 2019
We perform the flavour SU(3) analysis of the recently discovered Ω(2012) hyperon. We find that well known (four star) Δ(1700) resonance with quantum numbers of JP=3/2− is a good candidate for the decuplet partner of Ω(2012) if the branching for the three-

An Accretion Flare Interpretation for the Ultra-high-energy Neutrino Event KM3-230213A

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
We study the origin of the ultra−high-energy (UHE) neutrino event KM3-230213A detected by KM3NeT, focusing on MRC 0614−083, which has been pinpointed as the closest blazar to the neutrino localization exhibiting variable multiwavelength emission. A joint

Statistical parameter inference of bacterial swimming strategies

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2018
We provide a detailed stochastic description of the swimming motion of an E.coli bacterium in two dimension, where we resolve tumble events in time.

Quiet, but not silent

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
As the only known unambiguous star in a Maunder minimum-like chromospheric activity state, the properties of HD 166620 can provide valuable insight into the behaviour of the Sun during the historic extended low-states of its activity cycle. The coronal X-

Dispersion relations in application to chiral two-nucleon dynamics

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2014
A novel scheme based on the chiral Lagrangian is applied to the nucleon-nucleon interaction close to threshold. Subthreshold partial-wave amplitudes are calculated in chiral perturbation theory and analytically extrapolated above threshold.

Two 100 TeV Neutrinos Coincident with the Seyfert Galaxy NGC 7469

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
In 2013, the IceCube collaboration announced the detection of a diffuse high-energy astrophysical neutrino flux. The origin of this flux is still largely unknown. The most significant individual source is the close-by Seyfert galaxy NGC 1068 at the 4.2 σ

Sub-GeV dark matter and MeV gamma-ray detection with COSI

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics
Sub-GeV dark matter (DM) has been attracting more attention due to the negative results searching for traditional weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs).

Observation of the universal magnetoelectric effect in a 3D topological insulator

open access: yesNature Communications, 2017
The electrodynamics of topological insulators has been predicted to show a new magnetoelectric term, but this hasn’t been observed. Here, Dziomet al.
