Primary phases and a fatigue crack are studied in a forged blank of an aluminum alloy using synchrotron and laboratory X‐ray computed tomography. To image the crack, the fatigue test is interrupted, and a static tensile load is applied to open the crack.

2D velocity fields of simulated interacting disc galaxies [PDF]
We investigate distortions in the velocity fields of disc galaxies and their use to reveal the dynam- ical state of interacting galaxies at different redshift. For that purpose, we model disc galaxies in combined N-body/hydrodynamic simulations.

Substructures induced by dust drag in protoplanetary disks
Dust substructures observed in protoplanetary disks are commonly attributed to embedded planets; however, intrinsic gas-dust interactions can also generate complex morphologies.

Nonlinear Transmission of Strong THz‐Electric Fields Through Thin Gold Films
Gold is is the prime metal for imaging THz radiation. This study demonstrates that the interaction of strong THz pulses with gold becomes nonlinear at certain peak THz‐electric field strengths. The strong fields change the electron density of states which contributing to the absorption of the propagating THz pulse.

The interstellar medium of the Antennae galaxies [PDF]
To study the properties of the interstellar medium in the prototypical merging system of the Antennae galaxies (NGC 4038 and NGC 4039), we have obtained 12 CO (1–0), (2–1) and (3–2) line maps, as well as a map of the 870 μ m continuum emission.

Ultrafast lattice response of photoexcited thin films studied by X-ray diffraction
Using ultrafast X-ray diffraction, we study the coherent picosecond lattice dynamics of photoexcited thin films in the two limiting cases, where the photoinduced stress profile decays on a length scale larger and smaller than the film thickness. We solve

VLT/UVES observations of peculiar alpha abundances in a sub-DLA at z ~ 1.8 towards the quasar B1101-26 [PDF]
We present a detailed analysis of chemical abundances in a sub-damped Lyman alpha absorber at z=1.839 towards the quasar B1101-26, based on a very-high-resolution (R ~ 75,000) and high-signal-to-noise (S/N >100) spectrum observed with the UV Visual ...

Entropy production in non-reciprocal polar active mixtures
The out-of-equilibrium character of active systems is often twofold, arising from both the activity itself and from non-reciprocal couplings between constituents.

We re-evaluate the constraints on the parameter space of the minimal supersymmetric standard model from tunneling to charge- and/or color-breaking minima, taking into account thermal corrections.
