Maximizing the Energy Output of Soft Electrohydraulic Generators

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Many energy resources cannot be viably harvested with electromagnetic generators. This article evaluates the potential of soft electrohydraulic generators as an alternative approach for energy capture. An analytical model charts their operational limits and a rigorous experimental study results in new performance benchmarks with maximum specific energy

Effects of spin symmetry breaking in topological insulators [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Topological insulators are one of the most thoroughly investigated systems in condensed matter physics over the last years. In these systems, a prominent role is inevitably taken by time-reversal symmetry, which leads to Kramers theorem and symmetry ...

Fast equality test for straight-line compressed strings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The paper describes a simple and fast randomized test for equality of grammar-compressed strings. The thorough running time analysis is done by applying a logarithmic cost measure.

Physics‐Based Compact Modeling of Advanced 3D Nanoscale Vertical NAND Flash Memory

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
For advanced 3D NAND flash memory, a unified compact model for SPICE is proposed that spans from the intrinsic unit cell to the full string and captures the electrostatic coupling with adjacent inhibit strings. It can successfully predict read behavior, program/erase dynamics, and interactions between neighboring cells, reflecting array‐level behavior ...

Icing Condition Assessment of In-Service Glass Insulators Based on Graphical Shed Spacing and Graphical Shed Overhang

open access: yesEnergies, 2018
Icing on transmission lines might lead to ice flashovers of insulators, collapse of towers, tripping faults of transmission lines, and other accidents. Shed spacing and shed overhang of insulators are clues for evaluating the probability of ice flashover.

Mechanical Calculation of Flexible Wires Loaded with Concentrated Loads

open access: yesИзвестия высших учебных заведений и энергетических объединенний СНГ: Энергетика, 2020
Calculating of wires sag and tension under various modes is the task of mechanical calculation. The article derived formulas for the curve of the wire sag under the action of one or several concentrated forces and with various tensioning insulators ...

A Novel Electric Insulation String Structure With High-Voltage Insulation and Wireless Power Transfer Capabilities [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Power Electronics, 2018
High-voltage insulation (HVI) strings are commonly used to hold high-voltage electric cables and electrically isolate them from the grounded transmission tower. In this paper, a novel concept of an electric insulation string with HVI and wireless power transfer (WPT) capabilities is presented.

From Word2Vec to Transformers: Text‐Derived Composition Embeddings for Filtering Combinatorial Electrocatalysts

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
With the downstream filter held fixed, text‐derived composition representations produce distinct screening outcomes across 14 electrocatalyst libraries. Embedding model and composition encoding control the trade‐off between candidate reduction and preservation of the best measured current.

Study of Wind Flow Angle and Velocity on Ice Accretion of Transmission Line Composite Insulators

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
Ice accretion on insulators in cold regions is a serious and inevitable problem for power transmission lines, which may cause over-load and icing flashover accidents and can lead to wide power outage.

A Two‐Stage Characterization Pipeline and Open‐Source Framework for Reproducible Tactile Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
The same soft tactile sensor returns different numbers when embodied in different robots. This is an Embodiment Gap that no shared framework currently captures transparently. A two‐stage characterization pipeline, paired with a FAIR open‐source digital datasheet, decouples intrinsic sensor behavior from embodiment effects and condenses cross‐laboratory
