An Overpotential Test for Insulators
Transactions of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, 1922Some of the factors met in the design of insulators and characteristics of routine electrical tests are discussed in this paper. A new overpotential test is described with its application and effects. Results of this test make possible a higher standard of practise in the manufacture and use of transmission line insulators.

Electrical motor insulation conditions dc testing
IEEE Transactions on Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation, 1998This paper presents one of the maintenance test methods and the results of its application in the determination of the insulation condition of HV electric motors. Testing and data processing were carried out on site using a PC. In our tests the concept of the H"ofler method is used. Highly stabilized dc voltage as a series of voltage steps at $0.3 U_{;

In this chapter, attention is largely concentrated on predictive tests, aimed at determination of orders of merit, in ability to operate under contamination and at those made for purposes of research into insulator behaviour. Natural and artificial tests are covered separately.

Routine Insulation Testing of Synchronous Machines
Transactions of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, 1951THE CONTINUOUS operation of large synchronous machines and freedom from failures in service is of vital interest to every electric utility company. One of the major causes of unpredicted and unscheduled outage is the failure of stator coil insulation.

Nondestructive testing of insulation
Transactions of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, Part I: Communication and Electronics, 1953THE USER of electrical apparatus is constantly in need of information concerning the condition of the insulation. This information, at the present time, is supplied by such tests as insulation resistance, power factor, capacitance, or by more severe tests such as ?high-pot.? Unfortunately, none of these tests give a true indication of the ?health?

Polymer insulator test evaluation
PowerTech Budapest 99. Abstract Records. (Cat. No.99EX376), 2003Nonceramic insulators consist of a fiberglass core rod, metal end fittings, and weathershed housing. The weathershed homing is made of a polymeric material. Since the weathershed materials may be subject in service to degradation of aging due to harsh environmental conditions, laboratory tests are used to evaluate their performance.

WELL-PLANNED execution of a practical test program results in a maximum of equipment-operating efficiency through utilization of a minimum of test man power, equipment, and expense. The objective is to determine the extent of insulation deterioration and then take remedial measures against failure of the equipment.

Turbine-generator insulation testing
Electrical Engineering, 1956The problem of evaluating the condition of generator insulation seems to be general throughout the industry. This article deals with recent experiences of the Detroit Edison Company with direct high-voltage testing.

Surface insulation testing methods
IEE Colloquium: A Review of Outdoor Insulation Materials, 1996Tracking is the principal factor limiting the safe working electric stress of modern low-loss insulation in power system applications and involves surface breakdown initiated by surface discharges. Knowledge of the factors involved in the deterioration and breakdown of insulation by tracking is essential for the reliable and economic design and ...

Power-factor testing of transformer insulation
Electrical Engineering, 1941This paper points out a method for analyzing the results obtained from dissipation-factor tests of transformer insulation. Experimental data, obtained both from transformer tests, extending over the past three years, and from tests of sample insulation, indicate a definite relation between resistance and capacitance, with varying conditions of ...
