Generator Insulation Diagnostic Testing

IEEE Transactions on Power Apparatus and Systems, 1979
Ontario Hydro's experience with diagnostic partial discharge tests on hydraulic generators over a period of five years shows that a reliable prediction of stator insulation condition can be made prior to physical examination. "Action limit values" have been established to this end.

Realistic Approach to Insulation Testing

IEEE Transactions on Aerospace, 1963
If one makes an attempt to discard from publications on electrical insulation subjects the various hypothetical and conditional expressions, as well as definitions of technical terms, chosen by individuals rather than taken from already existing standards, not much convincing evidence remains in support of definite insulating breakdown criteria and ...

Insulation testing of electric windings

Electrical Engineering, 1943
THE paper describes a new method for the testing of insulation of windings, the advantages of which are adequate stressing of turn and conductor insulation and certain detection of defects. The new tester consists of a repeating-type surge generator, cathode-ray oscillograph, and synchronously driven switching equipment.

Railgun insulator materials test

IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 1986
An injected round bore railgun (77 cm long by 1 cm diameter bore) was designed and built for testing insulator materials. The firing parameters were held fixed and the rail to rail resistance of various insulators was measured versus shot number. The insulators studied include a variety of glass filled polymers, and filled and unfilled thermoplastics ...

Understanding stator insulation in-process testing

2015 61st IEEE Pulp and Paper Industry Conference (PPIC), 2015
Modern day manufacturing practices are focusing on maximizing production while actively pursuing ways to mitigate potential failures in their products. With rotating machinery, part of this pursuit requires qualification checkpoints during manufacturing processes. For motor stators, it is essential to perform in-process insulation testing to ensure the

An Overpotential Test for Insulators

Transactions of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, 1922
Some of the factors met in the design of insulators and characteristics of routine electrical tests are discussed in this paper. A new overpotential test is described with its application and effects. Results of this test make possible a higher standard of practise in the manufacture and use of transmission line insulators.
