Insulin-Like Growth Factor-1 and Selected Insulin-Like Growth Factor Binding Protein Concentrations during an Ultramarathon Sled Dog Race

open access: yesThe Scientific World Journal, 2016
The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of running a 1000-mile (1600 km) endurance sled dog race on serum insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) and insulin-like growth factor binding proteins 1 and 3 (IGFBP-1 and IGFBP-3).

Regulation and Function of Insulin-Like Growth Factor-Binding Protein-1

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1993
Insulin-like growth factor-binding protein (IGFBP)-1 is one of six homologous proteins that specifically bind and modulate the mitogenic and metabolic actions of insulin-like growth factor (IGF)-I and IGF-II. Of the six IGFBP, IGFBP-1 is the only one that displays rapid dynamic regulation in vivo, with serum levels varying 10-fold or more in relation ...

Predictors of Circulating Insulin-Like Growth Factor-1 and Insulin-Like Growth Factor–Binding Protein-3 in Critical Illness* [PDF]

open access: yesCritical Care Medicine, 2015
To characterize predictors of insulin-like growth factor-1 and insulin-like growth factor-binding protein-3 in acute critical illness with the hypothesis that acute factors associated with critical illness will more strongly predict circulating insulin-like growth factor-1 and insulin-like growth factor-binding protein-3 than chronic clinical or ...

Insulin-like growth factor 2 mRNA-binding protein 1 (IGF2BP1) in cancer

open access: yesJournal of Hematology & Oncology, 2018
The insulin-like growth factor-2 mRNA-binding protein 1 (IGF2BP1) plays essential roles in embryogenesis and carcinogenesis. IGF2BP1 serves as a post-transcriptional fine-tuner regulating the expression of some essential mRNA targets required for the ...

Role of Insulin-like Growth Factor Binding Protein 3 as a Diagnostic Marker of Growth Hormone in Patients with Acromegaly

open access: yesMìžnarodnij Endokrinologìčnij Žurnal, 2013
The paper studied the levels IGFBP-3 in patients with acromegaly, received different therapies. The findings showed that patients with acromegaly after surgical removal of a pituitary tumor, as well as after radiation therapy, the most sensitive ...

Synergistic and antagonistic effects of TNF-[alpha] and IGF-I in heart failure : "in vitro" and "in vivo" study of cardiac and skeletal muscle [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Cardiovascular diseases are a major cause of morbidity and mortality in industrialized countries. All forms of myocardial injury first lead to compensatory hypertrophy, which eventually progresses to heart failure.

Short hairpin RNA targeting insulin-like growth factor binding protein-3 restores the bioavailability of insulin-like growth factor-1 in diabetic rats

open access: yesInternational Brazilian Journal of Urology, 2016
Purpose To investigate whether intracavernosal injection of short hairpin RNA for IGFBP-3 could improve erectile function in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats.

Serum IGF-1 in patients with rheumatoid arthritis: correlation with disease activity

open access: yesBMC Research Notes, 2022
Objective Insulin-like growth factor (IGF)-1 participates in modulating immunity and inflammation. Its bioactivity is controlled by six IGF-binding proteins (IGFBP-1 to IGFBP-6).

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.
