Real world evidence of insulin and biosimilar insulin therapy—Opportunities to improve adherence, outcomes and cost‐effectiveness

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, EarlyView.
Abstract Insulin has been discovered for more than a century; however, its benefits to people with diabetes are yet to be fully realized due to barriers related to access, quality of care and costs. Insulin therapy remains the cornerstone of diabetes management. The multicausality of diabetes and its subtypes calls for comprehensive phenotyping and use

Molecular Modeling and Bioinformatics Analysis of Drug-Receptor Interactions in the System Formed by Glargine, Its Metabolite M1, the Insulin Receptor, and the IGF1 Receptor

open access: yesBioinformatics and Biology Insights, 2021
Introduction: Insulin and insulin-like growth factor type 1 (IGF1) regulate multiple physiological functions by acting on the insulin receptor (IR) and insulin-like growth factor type 1 receptor (IGF1R).

Validation using item response theory, and assessment of sensitivity to change of the Hypoglycemia Awareness Questionnaire in patients with type 2 diabetes treated with insulin

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes Investigation, EarlyView.
Hypoglycemia unawareness (HU) is a risk factor for severe hypoglycemia. The tools available for the diagnosis of HU have not been specifically validated in PwT2D on insulin treatment. The Hypoglycemia Awareness Questionnaire (HypoA‐Q) is a valid and reliable tool for measuring hypoglycemia awareness in PwT2D treated with insulin.

The economic prognosis of the new analog of insulin glargine usage in diabetes mellitus type 2

open access: yesКачественная клиническая практика, 2018
Modelling has been performed for evaluation of economic perspectives of new insulin glargine 300 IU/ml usage for diabetes mellitus type 2 (DM2) control based on literature analysis of non-direct comparison with insulin detemir.

Insulin therapy and risk of prostate cancer: a systematic review and meta-analysis of observational studies. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
BACKGROUND: Previous observational studies have shown that insulin therapy may modify the risk of prostate cancer (PCa). However, these studies yielded controversial results.

Efficacy and safety of premixed versus basal‐bolus regimens as intensification of insulin therapy in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus: A systematic review and meta‐analysis of randomized clinical trials

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes Investigation, EarlyView.
This systematic review and meta‐analysis investigates the therapeutic and adverse effects of premixed and basal‐bolus insulin intensification regiments and concludes that the two regiments are clinically comparable regarding glucose indices and adverse effects.

Bayesian Analysis of Glucose Dynamics during the Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT) [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
In this paper, we propose a model of the dynamics of the blood glucose level during an Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT). This dynamic includes the action of insulin and glucagon in the glucose homeostasis process as the reaction of an oral stimulus.

The effect of lyophilised oral faecal microbial transplantation on functional outcomes in dogs with diabetes mellitus

open access: yesJournal of Small Animal Practice, EarlyView.
Objectives We aimed to determine if oral faecal microbiota transplantation improves indices of glycaemic control, changes the faecal dysbiosis indices, alters faecal short‐chain fatty acid and bile acid profiles and increases serum glucagon‐like‐peptide 1 concentrations in diabetic dogs.

Practical considerations for using the Omnipod® 5 Automated Insulin Delivery System: Clinical experience from the United States and Europe

open access: yesDiabetes, Obesity and Metabolism, Volume 27, Issue 6, Page 2909-2919, June 2025.
Abstract Automated insulin delivery (AID) systems, which consist of an insulin pump, a continuous glucose monitoring system and a software algorithm to automate insulin delivery based on real time glycaemic data, are rapidly evolving. AID is now strongly recommended as the insulin delivery method of choice for people with type 1 diabetes.
