Insulin Resistance and Insulin Sensitizers
Hormone Research in Paediatrics, 2001Insulin resistance is a key factor in the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes mellitus and a co-factor in the development of dyslipidaemia, hypertension and atherosclerosis. The causes of insulin resistance include factors such as obesity and physical inactivity, and there may also be genetic factors.

Insulin resistance and hypertension
Molecular and Cellular Endocrinology, 1990Diminished insulin (Ins) sensitivity is a characteristic feature of various pathological conditions such as the cardiometabolic syndrome, Type 2 diabetes, and hypertension. Persons with essential hypertension are more prone than normotensive persons to develop diabetes, and this propensity may reflect decreased ability of Ins to promote relaxation and

Hypertension and Insulin Resistance
Journal of Cardiovascular Pharmacology, 1992Insulin resistance and hyperinsulinemia is now recognized in non-insulin-dependent diabetes, essential hypertension, obesity, atherosclerotic heart disease, dyslipidemia, heart failure, and in heavy smokers. Several mechanisms have been proposed to explain hyperinsulinemia, insulin resistance and its relationship to hypertension; reduced sodium ...

Immunologic insulin resistance
Diabetes, 1978The efficacy of sulfated beef insulin for plasma glucose control in 35 patients with immunologie insulin resistance was studied. Patients were on a mean dose of 550 U./day (range 200–2,000) of U-500 regular beef insulin. Mean maximum 125I-insulin-binding capacity was 191 mU./ml. serum (range 13–1,080).

SummaryBackground : Preliminary clinical and experimental results suggest that iron can modify hepatocytes’ insulin sensitivity by interfering with insulin receptor and intracellular insulin signalling.Aim : To evaluate in vivo the influence of iron on insulin resistance and insulin release in patients with non‐alcoholic fatty liver disease and in ...

Hexosamines and Insulin Resistance
Diabetes, 1996Glucose is an important regulator of cell growth and metabolism. Thus, it is likely that some of the adverse effects of hyperglycemia are reflections of normal regulation by abnormal concentrations of glucose. How the cell senses glucose, however, is still incompletely understood.

Insulin resistance and the endothelium
Current Diabetes Reports, 2004Type 2 diabetes is a cardiovascular disease equivalent that is associated with accelerated atherosclerosis and significant mortality. However, the metabolic syndrome and prediabetes are associated with increased cardiovascular mortality, indicating that atherogenic vascular changes begin prior to the onset of overt diabetes. At the core of diabetes and

Infliximab and insulin resistance
Autoimmunity Reviews, 2010Insulin resistance is the most important pathophysiologic feature of obesity, type 2 diabetes mellitus and prediabetic states. TNF-alpha, a proinflammatory cytokine, plays a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of inflammation-associated insulin resistance during the course of rheumatic diseases.

Glycosphingolipids and Insulin Resistance
2011Glycosphingolipids are structural membrane components, residing largely in the plasma membrane with their sugar-moieties exposed at the cell's surface. In recent times a crucial role for glycosphingolipids in insulin resistance has been proposed. A chronic state of insulin resistance is a rapidly increasing disease condition in Western and developing ...

Insulin Receptors and Insulin Resistance
Annual Review of Medicine, 1983Resistance to the action of insulin plays a central role in many important disease states, including diabetes and obesity. Many insights into the mechanism and significance of insulin resistance in these and other disorders have followed upon our expanding knowledge regarding insulin receptors.
