The number of distinct part sizes of some multiplicity in compositions of an Integer. A probabilistic Analysis [PDF]

open access: yesDiscrete Mathematics & Theoretical Computer Science, 2003
Random compositions of integers are used as theoretical models for many applications. The degree of distinctness of a composition is a natural and important parameter. A possible measure of distinctness is the number $X$ of distinct parts (or components).

Slight Truncation Changes in Iron Oxide Nanocubes Strongly Affect Their Magnetic Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Subtle variations in nanoparticle morphology can lead to significant changes in functional properties. An automated shape‐fitting method captures minor differences in corner truncation between iron oxide nanocubes of similar sizes synthesized under identical conditions, revealing pronounced disparities in their magnetic and hyperthermia behavior ...

WGO: a similarly encoded whale-goshawk optimization algorithm for uncertain cloud manufacturing service composition

open access: yesAutonomous Intelligent Systems
Service Composition and Optimization Selection (SCOS) is crucial in Cloud Manufacturing (CMfg), but the uncertainties in service states and working environments pose challenges for existing QoS-based methods.

Covariance within Random Integer Compositions

open access: yesCoRR, 2020
Fix a positive integer $N$. Select an additive composition $ξ$ of $N$ uniformly out of $2^{N-1}$ possibilities. The interplay between the number of parts in $ξ$ and the maximum part in $ξ$ is our focus. It is not surprising that correlations $ρ(N)$ between these quantities are negative; we earlier gave inconclusive evidence that $\lim_{N \to \infty} ρ ...

How the Carrier Mobility and Seebeck Coefficient of Doped Semiconducting Polymers Are Controlled by Counterion Interactions and Mesoscale Order

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Conventional doping of P3HT with F4TCNQ results in poor charge transport. However, when F4TCNQ is exchanged with LiTFSI, the transport characteristics are greatly enhanced. We find the increase in charge transport is directly related to an increase in the mesoscale ordering of P3HT, resulting in longer and better‐connected transport pathways.

Weighted Differentiation Composition Operator from Logarithmic Bloch Spaces to Zygmund-Type Spaces

open access: yesAbstract and Applied Analysis, 2014
Let H(𝔻) denote the space of all holomorphic functions on the unit disk 𝔻 of ℂ, u∈H(𝔻) and let  n be a positive integer, φ a holomorphic self-map of 𝔻, and μ a weight.

Partition and composition matrices: two matrix analogues of set partitions [PDF]

open access: yesDiscrete Mathematics & Theoretical Computer Science, 2011
This paper introduces two matrix analogues for set partitions; partition and composition matrices. These two analogues are the natural result of lifting the mapping between ascent sequences and integer matrices given in Dukes & Parviainen (2010).

Part-Products of 1-Free Integer Compositions [PDF]

open access: yesThe Electronic Journal of Combinatorics, 2011
If $\vec{\lambda}$ is a composition of the positive integer $n$, define ${\bf B}(\vec{\lambda})$ to be the product of the parts of $\vec{\lambda}$. We present a modified version of Hitczenko's stopped sequence construction that leads to a proof of the asymptotic lognormality of ${\bf B}$ for random 1-free compositions (compositions containing no parts
