Linked dimers of the AAA+ ATPase Msp1 reveal energetic demands and mechanistic plasticity for substrate extraction from lipid bilayers

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells must clear mislocalized or faulty proteins from membranes to survive. The AAA+ ATPase Msp1 performs this task, but dissecting how its six subunits work together is challenging. We engineered linked dimers with varied numbers of functional subunits to reveal how Msp1 subunits cooperate and use energy to extract proteins from the lipid bilayer ...

On Prime Ideals in Rings Satisfying Certain Functional Identities

open access: yesAxioms
In this note, we will examine the relationship between a generalized derivation ϝ associated with a derivation ∂ that satisfies specific algebraic identities and the behavior of a factor ring S/P, where P is a prime ideal of any ring S.

Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Generalized (τ, σ)-L-Derivations in Rings

open access: yesMathematics
Let τ and σ:X⟶X be automorphisms of an arbitrary associative ring X, and let L be a prime ideal of X. The main objective of this article is to combine the notions of generalized L-derivations and (τ,σ)-L-derivations by introducing and analyzing a novel ...

Photosynthesis under far‐red light—evolutionary adaptations and bioengineering of light‐harvesting complexes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phototrophs evolved light‐harvesting systems adapted for efficient photon capture in habitats enriched in far‐red radiation. A subset of eukaryotic pigment‐binding proteins can absorb far‐red photons via low‐energy chlorophyll states known as red forms.

POLARIMETRY IN THE HARD X-RAY DOMAIN WITH INTEGRAL SPI [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We present recent improvements in polarization analysis with the INTEGRAL SPI data. The SPI detector plane consists of 19 independent Ge crystals and can operate as a polarimeter.

Numerical approximation of the integral fractional Laplacian [PDF]

open access: yesNumerische Mathematik, 2017
We propose a new nonconforming finite element algorithm to approximate the solution to the elliptic problem involving the fractional Laplacian. We first derive an integral representation of the bilinear form corresponding to the variational problem.

Vacuolar transport and function of Saccharomyces cerevisiae sterol ester hydrolase Tgl1

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Tgl1, one of yeast sterol ester hydrolases, had been found on the lipid droplets where sterol esters are mainly stored. This study revealed that Tgl1 is transported into the vacuole depending on the ESCRT‐I–III complex, and that it exhibits intra‐vacuolar sterol ester hydrolase activity.

The role of fibroblast growth factors in cell and cancer metabolism

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fibroblast growth factor (FGF) signaling regulates crucial signaling cascades that promote cell proliferation, survival, and metabolism. Therefore, FGFs and their receptors are often dysregulated in human diseases, including cancer, to sustain proliferation and rewire metabolism.

Optimization Acceleration Integral Method Based on Power Spectrum Estimation

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2018
Due to the excellent performance of the frequency domain integration method, it is widely used for acceleration integral calculations. However, the frequency-domain integration needs to select the effective integration frequency band to achieve its ...
