An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

The CCD and readout electronics for the OMC instrument on Integral [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The Optical Monitoring Camera (OMC) on ESA's Integral gamma-ray astronomy satellite is devoted to optical wavelength observations simultaneously covering the same field-of-view as the gamma-ray and X-ray instruments.

High Resolution Ionization of Ultracold Neutral Plasmas

open access: yes, 2011
Collective effects, such as waves and instabilities, are integral to our understanding of most plasma phenomena. We have been able to study these in ultracold neutral plasmas by shaping the initial density distribution through spatial modulation of the ...

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

The sky distribution of 511 keV positron annihilation line emission as measured with INTEGRAL/SPI [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The imaging spectrometer SPI on board ESA's INTEGRAL observatory provides us with an unprecedented view of positron annihilation in our Galaxy. The first sky maps in the 511 keV annihilation line and in the positronium continuum from SPI showed a ...

Resolution-enhanced integral imaging using two micro-lens arrays with different focal lengths for capturing and display.

open access: yesOptics Express, 2015
We proposed a resolution enhanced integral imaging display method using two micro-lens arrays (MLA) with different focal lengths for capturing and display respectively.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Three-Dimensional Visualization Using Proportional Photon Estimation Under Photon-Starved Conditions

open access: yesSensors
In this paper, we propose a new method for three-dimensional (3D) visualization that proportionally estimates the number of photons in the background and the object under photon-starved conditions.

Wide-viewing integral imaging system using polarizers and light barriers array

open access: yesJournal of the European Optical Society-Rapid Publications, 2017
Background Integral imaging is considered one of the most promising three-dimensional display technologies, while the limited viewing angle is regarded as a primary disadvantage of integral imaging display to reach a commercial level. This paper proposes

Cell density–dependent nuclear‐cytoplasmic shuttling of SETDB1 integrates with Hippo signaling to regulate YAP1‐mediated transcription

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
At low cell density, SETDB1 and YAP1 accumulate in the nucleus. As cell density increases, the Hippo pathway is gradually activated, and SETDB1 is associated with increased YAP1 phosphorylation. At high cell density, phosphorylated YAP1 is sequestered in the cytoplasm, while SETDB1 becomes polyubiquitinated and degraded by the ubiquitin–proteasome ...
