Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

A P4-ATPase protein interaction network reveals a link between aminophospholipid transport and phosphoinositide metabolism [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
High-throughput analysis of protein-protein interactions can provide unprecedented insight into how cellular processes are integrated at the molecular level.

Integration of reverse osmosis and membrane crystallization for sodium sulphate recovery [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Reverse osmosis and membrane crystallization are evaluated in this work as stand-alone and integrated technologies for the recovery of Na2So4 from aqueous solutions. When So2 is removed from flue gases by obsorption in an aqueous solution and reacts with

Integrated Purification Systems for the Removal of Disinfectants from Wastewater

open access: yesMembranes
The efficiency of integrated treatment systems for wastewater generated during the washing of disinfectant production lines was investigated. The high organic load (COD 2000 mg/L, TOC 850 mg/L) and 300 mg/L of toxic benzalkonium chloride (BAC) make ...

Review on Direct-Contact Membrane Distillation and Supercritical CO2 Brayton Cycle Systems for Water Cogeneration

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Mechanical Sciences, 2022
Membrane distillation is a new desalination process that uses low-grade heat to produce clean water. Membrane distillation (MD), in contrast to energy conversion with reverse osmosis, uses the excess heat produced by the Brayton cycle for desalination ...

EDNRB‐dependent endothelin signaling reduces proliferation and promotes proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition in gliomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated

A comparison between linear and non linear thermodynamic models of membrane water and solute transport [PDF]

open access: yes, 1982
The linear thermodynamic description of membrane transport, although successfully employed for small flows, has some known limitations. Patlak, Goldstein and Hoffman suggested that the linear practical equations by Kedem and Katchalsky may be written as ...

Engineered extracellular vesicles enriched with the miR‐214/199a cluster enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...

Efficient Separation and Purification of Oligosaccharides: A Systematic Review on Principles and Applications of Membrane Separation Technology

open access: yesFood Bioengineering
Oligosaccharides are increasingly valued in research and industry due to their structural diversity and health benefits. However, their efficient separation and purification pose significant challenges, primarily due to structural complexity and the ...

IMPDH inhibition enhances cytarabine efficacy in SAMHD1‐expressing leukaemia cells via guanine nucleotide depletion

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytarabine is a key therapy for acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), but its efficacy is limited by the dNTPase SAMHD1, which hydrolyses its active metabolite. Screening nucleotide biosynthesis inhibitors revealed that IMPDH inhibitors selectively sensitise SAMHD1‐proficient AML cells to cytarabine.
