Exploring the fusion power plant design space: comparative analysis of positive and negative triangularity tokamaks through optimization

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
The optimal configuration choice between positive triangularity (PT) and negative triangularity (NT) tokamaks for fusion power plants hinges on navigating different operational constraints rather than achieving specific plasma performance metrics.

Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Integrated Modeling of a Laboratory Setup for a Large Deformable Mirror

open access: yes, 2011
We study a concept for a low-cost, large deformable mirror for an Extremely Large Telescope. The use of inexpensive voice-coil actuators leads to a poorly damped faceplate, with many modes within the desired control bandwidth.

Validation by Measurements of a IC Modeling Approach for SiP Applications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The growing importance of signal integrity (SI) analysis in integrated circuits (ICs), revealed by modern systemin-package methods, is demanding for new models for the IC sub-systems which are both accurate, efficient and extractable by simple ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

First global gyrokinetic profile predictions of ITER burning plasma

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
In this work, we present the first global gyrokinetic simulations of the ITER baseline scenario at 15 MA, performed using the GENE-Tango framework in both electrostatic and electromagnetic regimes.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Predict-first integrated modeling of WEST long pulse operation with combined ECRH/ECCD and LHCD

open access: yesNuclear Fusion
The WEST tokamak operates long pulses up to 1337 s in a full-tungsten (W) environment, anticipating challenges of next-generation fusion devices. Recent predict-first long pulse experiments, conducted based on High-Fidelity Plasma Simulator (HFPS ...

Groundwater-fed irrigation impacts spatially distributed temporal scaling behavior of the natural system: a spatio-temporal framework for understanding water management impacts

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters, 2014
Regional scale water management analysis increasingly relies on integrated modeling tools. Much recent work has focused on groundwater–surface water interactions and feedbacks.

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...
