Sex‐Biased Interactions Between Spur‐Thighed Tortoises (Testudo graeca) and Hindgut Nematodes

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 10, October 2026.
Tortoise (Testudo graeca) responses to nematode infestation are clearly sex‐biased, where females seem more resilient to nematode infestation than males. These findings emphasizes the need for sex‐directed conservation approaches in tortoises. ABSTRACT The nature of endosymbiont interactions is driven by different ecological and evolutionary processes.

Ethnomedicinal Uses of Thai Legumes (Fabaceae) and Their Potential in Industrial Applications

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 10, October 2026.
Thai legumes (Fabaceae) are rich sources of bioactive phytochemicals, including saponins, flavonoids, biochanin A, and daidzein. These compounds contribute to diverse ethnomedicinal properties, including antioxidant, antiviral, anti‐inflammatory, anticancer, and cardioprotective activities.

Gastrodia elata Polysaccharide Attenuates Aging by Modulating Oxidative Stress, Inflammation, and Gut Microbiota

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 10, October 2026.
Gastrodia elata polysaccharide (GEP) alleviates aging in mice by activating the Nrf2/Keap1 antioxidant signaling, inhibiting the TLR4/NF‐κB‐driven neuroinflammation, remodeling gut microbiota, and restoring intestinal‐barrier integrity. Synergistic regulation of oxidation, inflammation, and gut homeostasis underpins its anti‐aging potential for ...

Sodium sulfite can reliably induce chemical hypoxia without toxic effects in the model sea anemone species, Exaiptasia diaphana

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography: Methods, Volume 24, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract Climate change is accelerating the deoxygenation of aquatic ecosystems, so understanding its effects on biological processes is increasingly critical. An emerging method for inducing hypoxia during experimentation utilizes sodium sulfite (SSI) to scavenge oxygen; however, it remains unclear if hypoxia‐inducing concentrations of SSI are toxic ...

From Rhizosphere to Resistance: Microbe‐Plant Interactions in Eco‐Smart Biocontrol

open access: yesMicrobiologyOpen, Volume 15, Issue 5, October 2026.
Conceptual framework of eco‐smart biocontrol: Root exudates released by plants shape rhizosphere microbial community assembly by selectively recruiting beneficial microorganisms. These microbes suppress phytopathogens through direct mechanisms such as antibiosis, parasitism, enzyme production, and niche competition, while simultaneously activating ...
