Semiconductor Integrated Optic Devices
1988This chapter provides an overview of semiconductor integrated optics. The work in this field is motivated in part by the long-term desire to fabricate a variety of components on a common substrate. For example, Figure 6.1 shows a futuristic circuit formed on a direct-gap semiconductor that contains lasers, detectors, waveguides and modulators as well ...

Optical Characterization Of Integrated Optical Devices
SPIE Proceedings, 1988As integrated optical components become increasingly available, the need for an understanding of methods for characterization of these devices becomes necessary. This paper discusses several techniques for characterization of Ti:LiNb0 3 devices including waveguides, polarizers and phase modulators.

Integrated-optic grating devices for optical interconnects
Fifth Asia-Pacific Conference on ... and Fourth Optoelectronics and Communications Conference on Communications,, 1999Coupling among multistacked optical waveguides by grating couplers is discussed for application to interchip optical interconnects. Wavelength selective contradirectional coupling among three stacked waveguides is discussed with experimental results. A new type of grating coupler is proposed and demonstrated for efficiency improvement.

Organic Integrated Optical Devices
1989Organic and polymeric materials have emerged in recent years as promising candidates for advanced device and system applications1–4. This interest has arisen from the promise of extraordinary optical, structural, and mechanical properties of certain organic materials5–12, and from the fundamental success of molecular design13–15 performed to create new

Optical devices integrated with semiconductor optical amplifier
SPIE Proceedings, 2000Semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOA's) have been used as a key optical component for the high capacity communication systems. The monolithic integration is necessary for the stable operation of these devices and the wider applications. In this paper, the coupling technique between different waveguides and the integration of SSC's are discussed and ...

Nonlinear Integrated Optical Devices
SPIE Proceedings, 1985Nonlinear integrated optical devices based on second and third order nonlinearities of Ti:LiNbO3 waveguides are reviewed. Second harmonic and difference frequency generators as well as parametric amplifiers and oscillators are presented as efficient devices for frequency conversion of coherent radiation.

Integrated Optical lightguide device
In an integrated optical lightguide device including a light-transmitting core layer, an inclusion or buffer layer, and an active or cladding layer. The cladding layer is divided into segments. Groups of different segments exhibit different refractive indices, light intensity profiles or different degrees of sensitivity which have been effected by ...Heideman, Rene, Lambeck, Paul

Integrated Electro-optic Devices
1987Integrated electro-optic devices serve the functions of rapid light modulation, time-multiplexing, signal routing, tunable filtering, and polarization conversion. They are attractive devices due to their potential applications for wide-band optical communication, optical signal processing, and sensors.
