Engineering of Transmembrane Alkane Monooxygenases to Improve a Key Reaction Step in the Synthesis of Polymer Precursor Tulipalin A

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, EarlyView.
A biosynthesis route for the polymer precursor tulipalin A starting from isoprenyl acetate is proposed. The alkane monooxygenase AlkB catalyzes the chemoselective terminal hydroxylation of isoprenyl acetate. Rational enzyme engineering further increased the activity of the membrane enzyme.

In Situ Construction of Flexible Low‐Dimensional van der Waals Material Photodetectors

open access: yesAdvanced Physics Research, EarlyView.
This review summarizes the progress in directly constructing low‐dimensional van der Waals material photodetectors on flexible substrates, including developing low‐melting‐point materials, electron‐beam‐enabled crystallization, photonic crystallization, modified chemical vapor deposition, and pulsed‐laser deposition, with a keen eye on fundamental ...

Effects of dietary nutrients of the gut microbiota in the long‐tailed dwarf hamster (Cricetulus longicaudatus)

open access: yesEcology and Evolution
Gut microbiota is a key factor in maintaining the dietary and metabolic homeostasis of small mammals. To explore the effect of diet on the gut microbiota of the long‐tailed dwarf hamster (Cricetulus longicaudatus), 16S rDNA high‐throughput sequencing ...

“Visiting scientist effect”? Exploring the impact of time‐lags in the digitization of 2D landmark data

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Measurement error (ME) in geometric morphometrics has been the subject of countless articles, but none specific to the effect of time lags on landmark digitization error. Yet, especially for visiting scientists working on museum collections, it is not uncommon to collect data in multiple rounds, with interruptions of weeks or years. To explore

The history of anatomical engagement

open access: yesAnatomical Sciences Education, EarlyView.
Abstract The public's fascination with anatomy has evolved over time and progressed from avoidance of the tainted yet saintly corpse, to their fascination with cabinets of curiosities. The current narrative review explores public engagement (PE), from its potential origins as cave paintings, to the rise of the disciplinarity of anatomy.
