Identifying potential hotspots of groundwater-climate interaction in the Kalahari Aquifer System, Upper Zambezi Basin, Southern Africa

open access: yesJournal of Hydrology: Regional Studies
Study area: Upper Zambezi Catchment, Southern Africa Study focus: Climate change influence on groundwater is still poorly understood especially in developing countries with a limited monitoring network. In this study, groundwater-climate interactions are

SPHINX31 acts as a SRPK1 inhibitor targeting the ATR/DNA‐PKcs/CHK1 replicative checkpoint to inhibit cell growth in non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The kinase SRPK1 directly interacts with the protein TOPBP1 and regulates the pre‐mRNA splicing of WIZ thereby contributing to the activation of the ATR/CHK1 replicative checkpoint in response to replicative stress. This allows cancer cells' genomic stability and survival.

Spatiotemporal fusion of multi-source remote sensing data for estimating aboveground biomass of grassland

open access: yesEcological Indicators, 2023
Accurate estimation of aboveground biomass of grasslands is key to sustainable grassland utilization. However, most satellites cannot provide high temporal and spatial resolution data. Patterns of grassland dynamics associated with variability in climate

Tumour‐proximal deep serum proteomics identifies biomarkers associated with ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
New biomarkers are needed for early ovarian cancer detection. Ovarian (tumour‐proximal) and peripheral vein serum from healthy women and patients with benign or malignant tumours underwent nanoparticle‐enriched deep proteomics. Ovarian serum yielded more protein identifications and revealed tumour‐reflective signatures.

Identifying hydrological indices derived with datasets from remotely sensed products to monitor climate change and variability impacts on water resources: a systematic review

open access: yesFrontiers in Water
Hydrological indices are widely used to assess climate change and climate variability impacts on water resources; however, their application is often constrained by limited in-situ observations, particularly in data-scarce regions.

Integrated Water Resources Management in the Maltese Islands

open access: yesAcque Sotterranee, 2020
The Maltese islands present a case of extreme natural freshwater resources unavailability where available resources are not sufficient to sustainably meet the national water demand.

Properties and microstructure of total tailings cemented paste backfill material containing mining and metallurgical solid waste

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2023
Introduction: In order to improve the utilization efficiency of industrial waste discharged in the process of iron and steel metallurgy, a kind of material that can replace cement for mine filling is sought.

Importin 7 mediates the nuclear import of HIV‐1 integrase via a specific interacting interface

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
HIV‐1 integrase enables viral DNA integration into the host genome. By binding to the core domain of the host protein Importin 7 via its C‐terminal domain, the integrase is transported across the nuclear membrane into the nucleus, where integration of the viral genome into host DNA takes place. This translocation is a critical step for subsequent viral

Accurate and noninvasive prostate cancer detection using plasma‐derived extracellular vesicle RNA

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Plasma extracellular vesicles were captured with WGA‐conjugated magnetic beads and profiled for RNA biomarkers. A three‐RNA panel (NM_024955, NR_047469, and NR_002564) distinguished prostate cancer from healthy controls and benign prostatic hyperplasia, supporting a simple, noninvasive approach to improve prostate cancer detection.
