Demystifying the Power Scaling Law of Intelligent Reflecting Surfaces and Metasurfaces [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Intelligent reflecting surfaces (IRSs) have recently attracted the attention of communication theorists as a means to control the wireless propagation channel. It has been shown that the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of a single-user IRS-aided transmission

Machine Learning‐Supported Analysis for Predicting and Visualizing Nonlinear Relationships Between Material Properties in Electroplated Chromium Layers

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study applies machine learning regression to predict chromium layer thickness in decorative trivalent chromium electroplating, using 441 experiments from laboratory‐scale (1L) and pilot‐scale (14L) setups. Tree‐based models, particularly CatBoost, outperformed linear regression by capturing nonlinear parameter interactions (R2$R^2$ up to 0.77 ...

Design and Analysis of Compression–Torsion Coupling Metamaterials Using the Golden Section Method

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A novel compression–torsion metamaterial is engineered using inclined rods and symmetry breaking. To optimize its torsional performance, the golden section method is employed. The mechanical response of the metamaterial is validated through both numerical analysis and experimental validation.

Lyapunov Drift-Plus-Penalty Based Resource Allocation in IRS-Assisted Wireless Networks with RF Energy Harvesting [PDF]

open access: yesRadioengineering, 2022
We propose a resource allocation policy for intelligent reflective surface (IRS)-assisted wireless powered communication network (WPCN) where the energy harvesting (EH) users (EHUs) have finite energy storage and data buffers, for storing the harvested ...

Electromagnetic Modeling of Holographic Intelligent Reflecting Surfaces at Terahertz Bands

open access: yes, 2021
Intelligent reflecting surface (IRS)-assisted wireless communication is widely deemed a key enabler for 6G systems. The main challenge in deploying an IRS-aided terahertz (THz) link, though, is the severe propagation losses at high frequency bands. Hence,

From Food to Power: Hydrogel Thermoelectrics for Ingestible Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We introduce a fully edible thermoelectric–electrochromic platform that harvests heat from food and converts it into a visible color change. N‐type and p‐type hydrogel thermoelectric generators connected in series power anthocyanin‐based electrochromic displays, demonstrating the feasibility of safe, biodegradable, ingestible systems for on‐food ...

Intelligent Reflecting Surfaces Enabled Visible Light Positioning [PDF]

open access: yes
Light-emitting-diode based visible light positioning (VLP) system(s) can provide high-precision positioning accuracy, but require an unobstructed line-of-sight (LoS) environment.

Intermediate Resistive State in Wafer‐Scale Vertical MoS2 Memristors Through Lateral Silver Filament Growth for Artificial Synapse Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In MOCVD MoS2 memristors, a current compliance‐regulated Ag filament mechanism is revealed. The filament ruptures spontaneously during volatile switching, while subsequent growth proceeds vertically through the MoS2 layers and then laterally along the van der Waals gaps during nonvolatile switching.

Optimization of Intelligent-Reflecting-Surface-Enabled Covert Communication in Multi-Sensor Systems

open access: yesApplied Sciences
This study investigates covert communication in multi-sensor systems employing Intelligent Reflecting Surfaces (IRSs). Different from previous works, we focus on optimizing transmission amplitudes and phase angles for a 2-BPSK codebook in the presence of
