Abstract The existence of extensive precipitating anvil clouds in intense tropical convection suggests that vertical air motions associated with the anvil clouds play a significant role in the mass and heat budgets of these systems. This paper uses three different sets of assumptions about the water budget of an idealized mesoscale convective system to

Abstract For ITER, the potential material damage of plasma facing tungsten-, CFC-, or beryllium components during transient processes such as ELMs or mitigated disruptions are simulated numerically using the MHD code FOREV-2D and the melt motion code MEMOS-1.5D for a heat deposition in the range of 0.5–3 MJ/m2 on the time scale of 0.1–1 ms.

Temperature Rise and Heat Flux Induced by Laser Beam with Double-Gaussian Intensity Distribution
Japanese Journal of Applied Physics, 1995The temperature rise and heat flux induced by a CW (continuous wave) double-Gaussian-distributed laser beam have been investigated numerically in a semi-infinite substrate. The temperature-dependent thermal conductivity and surface reflectivity of the substrate material are incorporated in the calculation model.

This paper presents a different method for simultaneously estimating the thermal conductivity and the volumetric heat capacity of metallic samples. The contribution of this work consists in how it obtains the optimal conditions to produce such estimates.

AbstractIn global forecasting systems, tropical cyclone (TC) intensity is usually underestimated, which is one of the major challenges for TC forecasting. One possible reason is the deficiency of physical parameterizations associated with ocean surface waves.
