Agricultural intensification, dietary diversity, and markets in the global food security narrative

open access: yesGlobal Food Security, 2019
Many food security experts have been calling for agricultural intensification in developing countries to feed a growing global population. This narrative is based on a narrow view of food security focused on calories and neglects issues of dietary ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Transaction Costs and Export Intensification – The Cases of Poland and Hungary [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The purpose of this paper is to explain if and how foreign sales are affected by the level of transaction costs within industries in Poland and Hungary. The main hypotheses reflect the potential correlation for different types of industries.

The intensification of the strongest nor’easters

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences
Nor’easters are coastal extratropical cyclones that feed upon both thermal contrasts (meridional and land-ocean) and oceanic latent heat release, causing them to intensify along the U.S. East Coast. With central pressures that sometimes rival those of tropical cyclones, they represent a significant coastal hazard and are often associated with strong ...

Innovative Green Technologies of Intensification for Valorization of Seafood and Their By-Products

open access: yesMarine Drugs, 2019
The activities linked to the fishing sector generate substantial quantities of by-products, which are often discarded or used as low-value ingredients in animal feed.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Intensification test on maize production in the Sudano-Sahelian zone: techniques, soils, climate and economic conditions. [P28] [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The global context expects increased food production in the agricultural sector thereby substituting benefits in the petroleum sector and related services i.e. the conservation of biodiversity or carbon sequestration.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Enhancing Nucleation using a Vortex-based Hydrodynamic Cavitation Device: Application to Antisolvent Crystallization of Paracetamol – Methanol – Water System

open access: yesUltrasonics Sonochemistry
Nucleation is the onset of the crystallization process, and enhancing its rate is fundamental to intensifying crystallization, be it in a batch or continuous mode of operation.
