Recovery of southern mountain caribou habitat following wildfire in Ulkatcho territory, British Columbia, Canada

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, EarlyView.
Caribou forage lichens were present in post‐burn lodgepole pine stands multiple decades before stem‐density was likely open enough to attract wintering caribou. We posit that the prolonged self‐thinning of lodgepole pine after fire may be a greater limiting factor than lichen abundance for habitat recovery in lodgepole pine forests.

Grazing patterns on signalgrass pasture according to location of cattle feces

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Zootecnia, 2012
This study was conducted to evaluate the defoliation patterns on B. decumbens cv. Basilisk (signalgrass) tiller as a function of influence of feces deposited naturally by cattle.

The functional role of ants in no‐till cropping systems

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Ants provide valuable ecosystem services in tropical agriculture, but their roles in temperate row crops remain poorly understood. Conservation practices such as no‐till farming and cover cropping support ant communities that contribute to pest suppression, weed seed removal, and soil quality, which can increase crop productivity.

Controlled incubation, leachate, and pot assays of shrimp shell‐based compost for suppressing Verticillium dahliae in olive

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Shrimp shell compost suppresses Verticillium dahliae microsclerotia, enhances chitinase activity, lowers olive wilt severity and improves plant recovery under controlled conditions. Abstract BACKGROUND Verticillium wilt of olive (Olea europaea L.), caused by Verticillium dahliae Kleb., is difficult to manage because long‐lived microsclerotia persist in

Defoliation, Shoot Plasticity, Sward Structure and Herbage Utilization in Pasture: Review of the Underlying Ecophysiological Processes

open access: yesAgriculture, 2015
Sward structure affects herbage growth, pasture species dynamics, and herbage utilization. Defoliation management has a major impact on sward structure.

Absorption and translocation of 14C‐propiconazole associated with two adjuvants in young coffee plants

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Experimental workflow evaluating 14C‐propiconazole absorption and translocation in Coffea arabica with two biodegradable adjuvants, quantified at six post‐application time points using radioscanner and liquid scintillation spectrometry. Abstract BACKGROUND This study evaluated the absorption, translocation and distribution of 14C‐propiconazole applied ...

Ground‐based robotic remote sensing for standardized biodiversity monitoring in coastal habitats

open access: yesRemote Sensing in Ecology and Conservation, EarlyView.
Illustrated workflow of the proposed citizen‐to‐robot monitoring pipeline: (i) expert‐validated citizen observations are translated into AI models, (ii) deployed on a ground‐based robotic platform for proximal sensing of coastal dune habitats, (iii) enabling standardized detection of ecological targets (e.g., Pancratium maritimum & Brithys crini), and (

Grass defoliation intensity, frequency, and season effects on spotted knapweed invasion

open access: yes, 1999
Preventing the invasion of uninfested rangeland is central to managing spotted knapweed (Centaurea maculosa Lam.). Intensity, frequency, and season of grass defoliation determine the ability of grasses to tolerate grazing and resist weed invasion.

Cotton Farming Pesticides Affect Ileal Microbiota Activity and Expression of Virulome but Not Resistome or Metabolic Pathways in a Sedentary Wild Passerine

open access: yesEnvironmental Toxicology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The increased use of agrochemicals to enhance crop production has had detrimental environmental effects including implication in the sharp decline of North American farmland‐breeding birds. Here, using a combination of deep shotgun metatranscriptomics and pesticide exposure data, we sought to assess whether exposure to cotton (Gossypium spp ...

Herbage intake by cattle in kikuyugrass pastures under intermittent stocking method

open access: yesRevista Ciência Agronômica, 2019
Two complementary experiments were conducted to investigate the relationships between the canopy structure of Pennisetum clandestinum (kikuyugrass) pastures created by intermittent stocking strategies and daily herbage intake by cattle.
