Direct and Joint Effects of Genotype, Defoliation and Crop Density on the Yield of Three Inbred Maize Lines

open access: yesAgriculture, 2021
The aim of this study was to observe direct and joint effects of three factors (genotypes, ecological environmental conditions and the applied crop density) on the level of defoliation intensity and yield.

The Coloniality of Data: Police Databases and the Rationalization of Surveillance from Colonial Vietnam to the Modern Carceral State

open access: yesThe British Journal of Sociology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Tracing the early adoption of computer gang databases by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and the Los Angeles Police Department in the 1980s to the deployment of computationally‐assisted surveillance during the Vietnam War, this paper uses a genealogical approach to compare surveillance technologies developed across the arc of ...

Growth of the wild potato Solanum commersonii (Solanaceae) among grass tussocks under different defoliation intensities

open access: yesEcología Austral, 2018
Solanum commersonii is a wild potato, valuable as a socioeconomic resource for a breeding program of feeding crops. In grasslands, this species grows associated to Paspalum quadrifarium, a forage grass managed under grazing conditions. We are interested

Silencing of juvenile hormone‐related genes through RNA interference leads to molt failure and high mortality in the spongy moth

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
The feasibility of using RNA interference to control the globally important quarantine pest, the spongy moth. Targeting genes related to JHs play an important role in the growth and development of insects. First, the open reading frames (ORFs) of Ldjhamt and Ldjheh were identified and characterized, and the target genes were cloned and double‐stranded ...

Effect of grazing management strategies on the yield and nutritional value of Marandu grass in the semiarid of Brazil

open access: yesSemina: Ciências Agrárias, 2021
The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of two grazing management strategies on structural, productive and nutritional parameters of Marandu grass (Urochloa brizantha cv. Marandu).

Offspring performance does not explain oviposition preference in the leafminer Stigmella sorbi (Lepidoptera: Nepticulidae): a tri‐trophic perspective

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
We studied oviposition site selection in a leaf‐mining moth (Stigmella sorbi) on rowan trees (Sorbus aucuparia) in northwestern Russia, assessing larval performance across different shoot types, leaf positions, and leaflets. Larval survival was highest on long vegetative shoots, yet females showed no preference for these optimal sites.

Larval parasitism of the autumnal moth reduces feeding intensity on the mountain birch [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Plants respond to grazing by herbivorous insects by emitting a range of volatile organic compounds, which attract parasitoids to their insect hosts. However, a positive outcome for the host plant is a necessary precondition for making the attraction ...

Physiology of Cotton Defoliation

open access: yes, 2015
Revised 06/2015. Originally published 07/2001.3 pp.This bulletin deals with the physiology of cotton defoliation and attempts to describe what conditions must exist inside the plant in order for defoliation to occur.

Effect of Defoliation Intensity on the Absolute and Relative Growth Rates of \u27Grasslands Puna\u27 Chicory [PDF]

open access: yes
The response of absolute and relative growth of \u27Grasslands Puna\u27 chicory (Cichorium intybus L.) to defoliation intensity was examined in a glasshouse. Five defoliation intensities (0, 50, 100, 150 and 200 mm above media level), at 3 week intervals

Biomass flows and defoliation pattern of ryegrass grazed by supplemented heifers

open access: yesSemina: Ciências Agrárias, 2017
To strategically define the best stocking rate management strategy for ryegrass, it is important to know the growth process of forage plants in detail. The study was conducted to analyze the leaf biomass flows and the defoliation intensity and frequency ...
