Gas Dynamic Simulation of the Star-Planet Interaction using a Binary Star Model [PDF]
AbstractWe have performed numerical simulations of the interaction between a “hot Jupiter” planet and gas of the stellar wind using a numerical code developed for investigations of binary stars. With this code, we have modeled the structure of the gaseous flow in the system HD 209458.

As many patients with inflammatory arthritis (IA) have chronic pain, understanding how to best assess and manage pain in IA is a priority. Comorbid depression is prevalent in adults with IA, affecting 15% to 39% of people. Although pain and depression are thought to be associated in IA, this concept is largely based on cross‐sectional data.

CE 315: A New Interacting Double‐Degenerate Binary Star [PDF]
We present spectroscopic observations of object CE-315 revealing a blue continuum with strong emission lines. Most of the detected lines are identified with He I or He II in emission with a handful of faint lines of nitrogen. Notable is the complete absence of hydrogen lines.

Objectives This study aims to develop hip morphology‐based radiographic hip osteoarthritis (RHOA) risk prediction models and investigates the added predictive value of hip morphology measurements and the generalizability to different populations. Methods We combined data from nine prospective cohort studies participating in the World COACH consortium ...

Interactions between brown-dwarf binaries and Sun-like stars [PDF]
Several mechanisms have been proposed for the formation of brown dwarfs, but there is as yet no consensus as to which -- if any -- are operative in nature. Any theory of brown dwarf formation must explain the observed statistics of brown dwarfs. These statistics are limited by selection effects, but they are becoming increasingly discriminating.

Objective The objective was to identify factors determining acute arthritis resolution and safety with colchicine and prednisone in acute calcium pyrophosphate (CPP) crystal arthritis. Methods We conducted a post hoc analysis of the COLCHICORT trial, which compared colchicine and prednisone for the treatment of acute CPP crystal arthritis, using a ...

Binary interactions on the RGB: Dusty post-RGB stars [PDF]
AbstractIt is widely accepted that binary interactions are responsible for the shaping of planetary nebula. However, these binary interactions and evolutionary channels are poorly understood. Our recent study revealed a newly discovered population of low-luminosity, low-metallicity, likely binaries in the Magellanic Clouds: dusty post-RGB stars.

Infrared (IR) light evokes distinct calcium and water transport responses in astrocytes, depending on stimulation duration and protocol. This study uses widefield imaging and pharmacology to reveal differential engagement of astroglial signaling pathways.

Binary--Single Star Interactions in Globular Clusters
An extensive series of three-body interactions involving hard binaries and single stars are calculated by direct integration of ∼10 5 encounters. Unlike previous calculations, the stars have different mass ratios, chosen to be representative of the stellar and remnant population in a globular cluster, and most effort was devoted to the difficult case ...
