Triggering Star Formation by Galaxy-Galaxy Interactions [PDF]

open access: yesSymposium - International Astronomical Union, 2004
We analyzed the effects of having a close companion on the star formation activity of galaxies in the 8K galaxy pair catalog selected from the 2dFGRS. We found that, statistically, galaxies with rp < 25h−1 kpc and ΔV < 100km s−1 have enhanced star formation with respect to isolated galaxies with the same luminosity and redshift distribution.

What is driving the evolution of the far-infrared radio correlation? [PDF]

open access: yesZbornik Matice Srpske za Prirodne Nauke, 2019
Far infrared-radio correlation represents a linear relationship between far-infrared (FIR) and radio emission in star-forming galaxies. Previous observations have confirmed that this correlation is maintained over a large range of redshift and ...

S0 Galaxies: Outer Gas Accretion through Tidal Interaction and Minor Merging

open access: yesGalaxies, 2023
To clarify the sources of outer gas accretion onto disk galaxies, we study the vicinity of four interacting galaxy systems in the Hα emission line by using the scanning Fabry–Perot interferometer of the 6m telescope of the Special Astrophysical ...

ALMA CO Clouds and Young Star Complexes in the Interacting Galaxies IC 2163 and NGC 2207 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Atacama Large Millimeter Array (ALMA) observations of CO(1-0) emission in the interacting galaxies IC 2163 and NGC 2207 are used to determine the properties of molecular clouds and their association with star-forming regions observed with the Hubble ...

Exploring the Impact of Galactic Interactions and Mergers on the Central Star Formation of APEX/EDGE–CALIFA Galaxies

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
Galactic interactions and subsequent mergers are a paramount channel for galaxy evolution. In this work, we use the data from 236 star-forming CALIFA galaxies with integrated molecular gas observations in their central region (approximately within an ...

Self-interacting dark matter on small and large scales

open access: yesSciPost Physics Proceedings, 2023
In the self-interacting dark matter paradigm (hereafter SIDM), dark matter (DM) is assumed to have non-gravitational interactions with itself. SIDM has been constrained by observations of galaxy clusters. More recently, measurements of large DM densities

The Formation and Evolution of Star Clusters in Interacting Galaxies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Observations of globular clusters show that they have universal lognormal mass functions with a characteristic peak at , but the origin of this peaked distribution is highly debated.

HIGH STAR FORMATION RATES IN TURBULENT ATOMIC-DOMINATED GAS IN THE INTERACTING GALAXIES IC 2163 AND NGC 2207 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
CO observations of the interacting galaxies IC 2163 and NGC 2207 are combined with HI, Hα, and 24 μm observations to study the star formation rate (SFR) surface density as a function of the gas surface density.
