Gravitational and distributed heating effects of a cD galaxy on the hydrodynamical structure of its host cluster

open access: yes, 2013
We investigate the effects of a cD galaxy's gravity and AGN heating of the host galaxy cluster. We consider a standard prescription for the hydrodynamics, with the structures determined by mass continuity, momentum and energy conservation equations in ...

Tidal Formation of Dark Matter Deficit Diffuse Galaxy NGC 1052-DF2 by SIDM

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Observations have revealed a significant dark matter deficit in the ultradiffuse galaxy NGC 1052-DF2 (DF2). It is widely accepted that the formation of this unique galaxy can be attributed to the tidal stripping of its host galaxy, NGC 1052.

Dissipative N - body code for galaxy evolution

open access: yes, 2000
The evolving galaxy is considered as a system of baryonic fragments embedded into the static dark nonbaryonic (DH) and baryonic (BH) halo and subjected to gravitational and viscous interactions.

Interacting Galaxies with MOND

open access: yes, 2007
We compare N-body simulations performed in MOND with analogs in Newtonian gravity with dark matter (DM). We have developed a code which solves the Poisson equation in both gravity models. It is a grid solver using adaptive mesh refinement techniques, allowing us to study isolated galaxies as well as interacting galaxies.

A Multiwavelength Portrait of the 3C 220.3 Lensed System

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
The 3C 220.3 system is a rare case of a foreground narrow-line radio galaxy (“galaxy A,” z _A = 0.6850) lensing a background submillimeter galaxy ( z _SMG = 2.221).

Modeling the Initial Conditions of Interacting Galaxy Pairs Using Identikit

open access: yes, 2015
We develop and test an automated technique to model the dynamics of interacting galaxy pairs. We use Identikit (Barnes & Hibbard 2009, Barnes 2011) as a tool for modeling and matching the morphology and kinematics of the interacting pairs of equal-mass ...

Bar-spheroid interaction in galaxies

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1992
The secular evolution of barred galaxies is explored using N-body simulation and linear analysis. In particular, we examine the interaction between bars and spheroidal components of galaxies. According to our calculations, this interaction drives secular transfer of angular momentum from bars to spheroids, primarily through resonant coupling.

A Multiwavelength Approach to Constraining the Merger Properties of ACT-CL J0034.4+0225

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
ACT-CL J0034.4+0225 is a previously unrecognized merging galaxy cluster at z = 0.38588 ± 0.00068. Our primary evidence is provided by a 21 ks Chandra image that shows two surface brightness peaks separated by ∼49″ (259 kpc) surrounded by an extended ...

Tidal Interaction of Galaxies

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series, 1978
In this paper we investigate the effect of weak tidal interactions among galaxies in clusters. We obtain the Fokker-Planck coefficients for this process by making use of the impulse approximation. We assume that the outer regions of a galaxy are well described by isotropically distributed stellar orbits with small angular momenta.
