Physiological synchrony during meaningful moments of interaction: an exploratory study [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Intellectual & Developmental Disability
The idiosyncratic ways of communication of people with profound intellectual disabilities complicate meaningful interactions between them and support staff. A physiological explication of their interplay may help to better understand meaningful contact.Five staff-client-dyads were filmed during dyadic interactions, while their heart rate (HR) and ...

Experimental Characterization and Constitutive Modeling of the Effect of Prior Inelastic Strain on the Viscoplastic Behavior of AD730 at 700 °C

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study shows that superalloys used in aircraft engine disks become much more prone to deformation at high temperatures if they have been strained during manufacturing. This effect increases with the level of prior strain but eventually reaches a limit.

Defect Evolution and Mechanical Performance of Fused Filament Fabrication‐Manufactured 17‐4PH Stainless Steel Revealed by X‐Ray Computed Tomography

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
X‐ray computed tomography reveals how process‐induced defects evolve from green to sintered states in Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF)‐manufactured 17‐4PH stainless steel. Internal porosity, weakest cross‐sections, and fracture locations show strong correlation with tensile performance, demonstrating the potential of computed tomography (CT)‐based ...

Elucidating the Effect of Mother-Child Interactional Synchrony: Relations between Synchrony, Mutuality, Parenting Attitudes, and Preschool Adjustment

open access: yes, 2017
The present study examined the association between the quality of parent-child interaction and child outcomes. Specifically, global interactional synchrony, the individual synchrony components of mutual initiation and mutual compliance, and mother’s ...

Printed Integrated Logic Circuits Based on Chitosan‐Gated Organic Transistors for Future Edible Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Edible electronics needs integrated logic circuits for computation and control. This work presents a potentially edible printed chitosan‐gated transistor with a design optimized for integration in circuits. Its implementation in integrated logic gates and circuits operating at low voltage (0.7 V) is demonstrated, as well as the compatibility with an ...

Exploring robot-led activities between people living with dementia and family care partners

open access: yesFrontiers in Robotics and AI
IntroductionWhile shared activities foster connection between people living with dementia (PLWD) and their care partners, emotional distress and daily caregiving responsibilities often make them difficult to initiate.

Microenvironmental Reprogramming by 3D Anisotropic Cardiac Extracellular Matrix Induces Nuclear Remodeling and Epigenetic Maturation of Chemically Induced Cardiomyocytes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A 3D anisotropic hydrogel derived from heart extracellular matrix guides cytoskeletal alignment and nuclear remodeling in reprogrammed cardiomyocyte‐like cells. This study reveals how matrix alignment modulates nuclear envelope dynamics and chromatin state, triggering transcriptional and functional maturation.

Analysis of Adult-Neonate Synchrony During Speech and Nonspeech

open access: yes, 1983
Five neonates and two adult female interactans were videotaped and categorized as to their interactionally synchronous movements during speech and nonspeech. Although synchrony occurred during speech as well as nonspeech, it was significantly more likely

Emerging synchrony and synchrony transitions and their effects on development of affiliation in social interaction adaptivity: Comparative computational analysis of different synchrony and synchrony transition detection methods

open access: yesCognitive Systems Research
Interpersonal synchrony often emerges during social interaction and in turn is linked to better interpersonal affiliation. In addition, transitions in synchrony – meaning switching between moving in and out of sync − also occur often. It might be assumed that transitions in synchrony, especially when the extent of synchrony decreases, negatively affect
