The (In)Efficiency of interaction [PDF]
Evaluating higher-order functional programs through abstract machines inspired by the geometry of the interaction is known to induce space efficiencies, the price being time performances often poorer than those obtainable with traditional, environment ...

Interactive Interaction Constraints [PDF]
Interaction constraints are an expressive formalism for describing coordination patterns, such as those underlying the coordination language Reo, that can be efficiently implemented using constraint satisfaction technologies such as SAT and SMT solvers. Existing implementations of interaction constraints interact with external components only in a very

EFFECTIVE INTERACTIONS ARE EFFECTIVE INTERACTIONS [PDF]
The subject of effective interactions is introduced and applications in both quantum mechanics and quantum field theory are presented. In particular the use of chiral perturbation theory as an effective low energy description of QCD is developed and it is argued that such methods rally are effective in both the meson and baryonic sectors.

Social Interaction for Interactive Storytelling [PDF]
In recent years interactive narratives emerged as a new form of digital entertainment, allowing users to interact and change stories according to their own desires. In this paper, we explore the use of social networks as a way of interaction in interactive narratives.

Interactive Coding for Interactive Proofs [PDF]
We consider interactive proof systems over adversarial communication channels. We show that the seminal result that \({\mathbf {IP}}= {\mathbf {PSPACE}}\) still holds when the communication channel is malicious, allowing even a constant fraction of the communication to be arbitrarily corrupted.

Reconceptualizing sex, brain and psychopathology: interaction, interaction, interaction [PDF]
In recent years there has been a growing recognition of the influence of sex on brain structure and function, and in relation, on the susceptibility, prevalence and response to treatment of psychiatric disorders. Most theories and descriptions of the effects of sex on the brain are dominated by an analogy to the current interpretation of the effects of

Triparental plants provide direct evidence for polyspermy induced polyploidy
The fertilization of an egg by more than one sperm is typically lethal. Here, via a novel reporter assay, Nakel et al. report the generation of triparental triploid Arabidopsis plants, implying that polyspermy is a plausible route toward polyploidy ...

Rapid evolution of bacterial mutualism in the plant rhizosphere
Beneficial plant-microbe interactions are common in nature, but direct evidence for the evolution of mutualism is scarce. Here, Li et al. experimentally evolve a rhizospheric bacterium and find that it can evolve into a mutualist on a relatively short ...

Surface Interactions for Interactive Sonification [PDF]
This paper presents novel interaction modes for Model-Based Sonification (MBS) via interactive surfaces. We first discuss possible interactions for MBS on a multi-touch surface. This is followed by a description of the Data Sonogram Sonification and the Growing Neural Gas Sonification Model and their implementation for the multi-touch interface ...
