Experiencing affective interactive art

open access: yesInternational Journal of Arts and Technology, 2010
The progress in the field of affective computing enables the realization of affective art. This paper describes the affective interactive art system Mood Swings, which interprets and visualizes affect expressed by a person. Mood Swings is founded on the integration of a framework for affective movements and a color model.

Emergent Learning and Interactive Media Artworks: Parameters of Interaction for Novice Groups

open access: yesInternational Review of Research in Open and Distributed Learning, 2011
Emergent learning describes learning that occurs when participants interact and distribute knowledge, where learning is self-directed, and where the learning destination of the participants is largely unpredictable (Williams, Karousou, & Mackness, 2011).

Art and Interaction

open access: yesThe Journal of Aesthetics and Art Criticism, 1986
Ideas of the aesthetic figure largely in two crucial areas of debate in the philosophy of art. On the one hand, the aesthetic often plays a definitive role in characterizations of our responses to or interactions with artworks. That is, what is thought to be distinctive about our commerce with artworks is that these encounters are marked by aesthetic

Art and Science: Interacting Universes [PDF]

open access: yesClinical Chemistry, 2013
Science needs public support, and therefore communicating science well to the wider society is paramount. On the other hand, the very essence of art is that it communicates ideas and invites interpretation. That is a fascinating convergence. In science, communication is done by scientists themselves, by popular-science writers, or by journalists ...

Fostering Innovation: Streamlining Magnetocaloric Materials Research by Digitalization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Magnetocaloric cooling (MCE) is an environmentally friendly refrigeration method with great potential. Optimizing MCE materials involves the preparation and screening of large quantities of samples, which in turn generates a large amount of data. A digitalization approach is presented that uses ontologies, knowledge graphs, and digital workflows to ...

Symbolic Regression and Multi‐Objective Optimization of the Flory–Huggins Interaction Parameter for Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We develop a data‐driven method to derive the mathematical expressions of the Flory–Huggins interaction parameter χ for the swelling behavior of temperature–responsive hydrogels. Starting from initial assumptions of χ, our workflow combines Bayesian optimization, Flory–Rehner theory, and symbolic regression to generate candidate χ expressions.
