Tone detection thresholds in interaurally delayed noise of different bandwidths [PDF]
Differences between the interaural phase of a noise and a target tone improve detection thresholds. The maximum masking release is obtained for detecting an antiphasic tone (Sπ) in diotic noise (N0).

Localization of broadband sounds carrying interaural time differences: Effects of frequency, reference location, and interaural coherence [PDF]
The auditory processes involved in the localization of sounds in rooms are still poorly understood. The present study investigated the auditory system's across-frequency processing of interaural time differences (ITDs) and the impact of the interaural coherence (IC) of the stimuli in ITD discrimination and localization.

Trading of intensity and interaural coherence in dichotic pitch stimuli [PDF]
When a signal is added to noise in the NoSπ binaural configuration, a reduction in interaural coherence, ρ, occurs at the signal frequency and increases in tone intensity decrease ρ. Corresponding manipulations of ρ result in the perception of a phantom signal which increases in loudness as ρ decreases [Culling et al. (2001). J. Acoust. Soc. Am.

A Binaural Sound Source Localization Model Based on Time-Delay Compensation and Interaural Coherence [PDF]
Binaural sound source localization is an important technique involving speech capture and enhancement. However, the simple array structure makes it hard to localize sources in complex noisy conditions. This paper presents a novel algorithm based on time-delay compensation (TDC) and interaural coherence for binaural sound localization.

Externalization of Virtual Sound Sources With Bone and Air Conduction Stimulation [PDF]
Current research on sound source externalization primarily focuses on air conduction (AC). As bone conduction (BC) technology advances and BC headphones become more common, the perception of externalization for BC-generated virtual sound sources has ...

Binaural Audio Signal Processing Using Interaural Coherence Matching [PDF]
Binaural room impulse responses (BRIRs) characterize the transfer of sound from a source in a room to the left and right ear entrances of a listener. Applying BRIRs to sound source signals enables headphone listening with the perception of a three dimensional auditory image.

Localization of Sound in Rooms. V. Binaural Coherence and Human Sensitivity to Interaural Time Differences in Noise [PDF]
Binaural recordings of noise in rooms were used to determine the relationship between binaural coherence and the effectiveness of the interaural time difference (ITD) as a cue for human sound localization. Experiments showed a strong, monotonic relationship between the coherence and a listener’s ability to discriminate values of ITD.

Surrounding line sources optimally reproduce diffuse envelopment at off-center listening positions [PDF]
Listener envelopment has previously been studied in the fields of room acoustics and multichannel sound reproduction. However, the potentially detrimental effect of a directional imbalance remains uninvestigated.
