A Portable Laser Spectroscopic System for Measuring Nitrous Oxide Emissions on Fertilized Cropland

open access: yesSensors, 2023
Nitrous oxide (laughing gas, N2O) is a relevant greenhouse gas. Agriculture contributes significantly to its emissions. As nitrogen fertilization has been identified as one of the main sources of N2O, controlled application and reduction of the amount of

Multiheterodyne spectroscopy using interband cascade lasers [PDF]

open access: yesOptical Engineering, 2017
While mid-infrared radiation can be used to identify and quantify numerous chemical species, contemporary broadband mid-IR spectroscopic systems are often hindered by large footprints, moving parts and high power consumption. In this work, we demonstrate multiheterodyne spectroscopy using interband cascade lasers, which combines broadband spectral ...

Saturation of interband absorption in graphene

open access: yes, 2010
The transient response of an intrinsic graphene, which is caused by the ultrafast interband transitions, is studied theoretically for the range of pumping correspondent to the saturated absorption regime.

Germanium‐Based Mid‐Infrared Integrated Photonics

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
The mid‐infrared (mid‐IR) spectral range is a part of the electromagnetic spectrum in which most of the molecules have vibrational and rotational resonances. Photonics integration in this wavelength range have thus seen a burst of interest in the recent years, mainly driven by applications related with the detection of chemical and biological ...

Room temperature interband cascade lasers

open access: yesPhysics Procedia, 2010
AbstractAn analysis of the threshold current densities and differential slope efficiencies in interband cascade lasers with type-II active regions revealed lower Auger recombination rates than anticipated theoretically or using the data from prior experiments. Furthermore, a new design of the waveguide yielded room-temperature internal losses as low as

Germanium-on-silicon mid-infrared arrayed waveguide grating multiplexers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
In this letter, we describe the use of a germanium-on- silicon waveguide platform to realize an arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) operating in the 5 mu m wavelength range, which can be used as a wavelength multiplexer for mid-infrared (midIR) light engines

Frontiers of Bright CEP‐Stable Broadband Infrared Sources

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
Bright CEP‐stable broadband infrared sources push the limits of ultrafast science by delivering exceptional brightness alongside few‐cycle durations and multi‐octave spectral coverage. This review highlights emerging architectures and nonlinear conversion strategies that scale power while preserving phase stability.

Electromagnetic Quasinormal Modes: A Foundational Framework for Describing Fano Resonances of Extinction Spectra

open access: yesNanophotonics, Volume 15, Issue 9, 13 May 2026.
An ab initio electromagnetic framework links quasinormal modes to Fano resonances in extinction spectra. Analytical expressions for the Fano asymmetry and intensity parameters are derived from overlap integrals, enabling rapid spectral reconstruction and physical interpretation.

Effect of heating and cooling of photogenerated electron-hole plasma in optically pumped graphene on population inversion

open access: yes, 2011
We study the characteristics of photogenerated electron-hole plasma in optically pumped graphene layers at elevated (room) temperatures when the interband and intraband processes of emission and absorption of optical phonons play a crucial role.

Introducing the Groundbreaking Design of the First n‐Input AND Gate Using an Optical‐MOSFET With a Revolutionary Structure of Pulse‐Shaped Gates

open access: yesAdvanced Photonics Research, Volume 7, Issue 5, May 2026.
The paper introduces the first logic gate implementation using optical metal–oxide‐semiconductor field‐effect transistor architecture, specifically designing two‐input and three‐input AND gates based on a silicene waveguide with pulse‐shaped gates. The key innovations include: (1) pulse‐shaped gate design.
