Weakly-coupled MCF direct-detection OOK systems impaired by laser phase noise [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
On-off-keying multicore fiber systems employing different lasers are experimentally investigated. Laser phase noise increases the instantaneous fluctuations of the crosstalk.

Quantum information processing with space-division multiplexing optical fibres

open access: yes, 2020
The optical fibre is an essential tool for our communication infrastructure since it is the main transmission channel for optical communications. The latest major advance in optical fibre technology is spatial division multiplexing (SDM), where new fibre

Resource Allocation for Space Division Multiplexing:Optical White Box vs. Optical Black Box Networking [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Elastic optical networking (EON) with space division multiplexing (SDM) is the only evident long-term solution to the capacity needs of the future networks.

Outage Probability Due to Intercore Crosstalk in Weakly-Coupled MCF Systems with OOK Signaling

open access: yesOptical Fiber Communication Conference (OFC) 2019, 2019
The outage induced by intercore-crosstalk in multicore-fiber systems employing on-off-keying signaling is theoretically and experimentally characterized. It is shown that a crosstalk level below −16 dB is required to obtain an outage probability below 10−4.

Space-division multiplexing for fiber-wireless communications

open access: yes, 2018
We envision the application of optical Space-division Multiplexing (SDM) to the next generation fiber-wireless communications as a firm candidate to increase the end user capacity and provide adaptive radiofrequency-photonic interfaces.

Opportunities, challenges and requirements for introducing space division multiplexing in fibre optical networks

open access: yesIET Optoelectronics, Volume 19, Issue 1, January/December 2025.
The authors discuss opportunities, challenges and requirements for successful commercialisation of space division multiplexing (SDM) in optical networks. The authors consider recent developments in SDM technology and focus on the importance of different geometrical parameters when designing multi‐core fibres and on the design choices for shared SDM ...
