Alley cropping opportunities and research priorities in orchard systems: A case study in northern California

open access: yesAgronomy Journal, Volume 118, Issue 5, September/October 2026.
Abstract Alley cropping is the production of annual and perennial cash crops between orchard trees. Despite its documented benefits, adoption of alley cropping in California remains limited. This paper describes a long‐term commercial alley cropping system in northern California and identifies research areas that can support this practice.

Proteomic Determinants of Fluctuating Light Sensitivity in Soybean: Comparative Analysis of Tolerant and Sensitive Cultivars

open access: yesFood and Energy Security, Volume 15, Issue 5, September/October 2026.
ABSTRACT Fluctuating light (FL), caused by cloud movement, canopy dynamics, and intercropping, is a pervasive stress affecting crop productivity, yet the molecular basis of FL responses in different photosensitivity soybeans remains poorly understood. Here, we integrated physiological, transcriptomic, and proteomic analyses to compare the responses to ...

Understanding Smallholder Farmers' Perceptions and Adoption Levels of Conservation Agriculture in the Climate Change Vulnerable North‐Eastern Regions of Namibia

open access: yesFood and Energy Security, Volume 15, Issue 5, September/October 2026.
ABSTRACT Conservation agriculture (CA) has gained policy relevance across Africa as a climate‐smart approach aligned with continental commitments under the Malabo Declaration and the subsequent Kampala CAADP agenda to promote sustainable agricultural transformation and resilient agrifood systems. However, its adoption remains uneven in semiarid farming
