Behind the unflagging spirit of SIS there are three themes that resonate throughout this issue of Interface. First, the School continues to be client-centric and is working hard to reach out to all of its constituencies—the students, the alumni and to ...

The molecular structure of the interface between water and a hydrophobic substrate is liquid-vapor like [PDF]
With molecular simulation for water and a tunable hydrophobic substrate, we apply the instantaneous interface construction [A. P. Willard and D. Chandler, J. Phys. Chem. B, 114, 1954 (2010)] to examine the similarity between a water-vapor interface and a

The study evaluated the function and therapeutic implications of PRAME in basal cell carcinoma (BCC) and squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). The findings demonstrate that PRAME impairs keratinocyte differentiation pathways. Furthermore, PRAME impairs anticancer response to retinoid compounds in BCC and SCC cells.

Band alignment and directional stability in abrupt and polar-compensated Si/ZnS interface calculations [PDF]
We perform a first principles investigation of Si/ZnS interface properties for the [111], [100], and [110] directions, including single-substitution polar-compensated interfaces. The asymmetry of general interface directions poses known challenges for standard methods of calculation: a multiplicity of interface distinctions, artificial electric fields,

Magnetic order and valency at La$_{0.7}$Sr$_{0.3}$MnO$_{3}$/SrTiO$_{3}$ interfaces [PDF]
We report on first principles calculations of the electronic structure of La$_{0.7}$Sr$_{0.3}$MnO$_{3}$/SrTiO$_{3}$ junction with two possible types of interface terminations. We find that the La$_{0.7}$Sr$_{0.3}$O/TiO$_{2}$ interface preserves the interlayer ferromagnetic coupling between the interface MnO$_{2}$ layer and the bulk. The other interface,

This study investigates an alternative approach to reactivating the oncosuppressor p53 in cancer. A short peptide targeting the association of the two p53 inhibitors, MDM2 and MDM4, induces an otherwise therapeutically active p53 with unique features that promote cell death and potentially reduce toxicity towards proliferating nontumor cells.

Silicon-Oxide Interfaces: Structure and Electronic Properties [PDF]
The paper reviews methods used to study the electronic and structural properties of silicon/insulator interfaces. Methodological approaches to study the interface states and charge trapping in the oxide are considered. An overview of archetypical structural defects of the Si/SiO2 interface is given.

Chronic TGF‐β exposure drives epithelial HCC cells from a senescent state to a TGF‐β resistant mesenchymal phenotype. This transition is characterized by the loss of Smad3‐mediated signaling, escape from senescence, enhanced invasiveness and metastatic potential, and upregulation of key resistance modulators such as MARK1 and GRM8, ultimately promoting
