The Interface Crack

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1977
It is known that oscillatory singularities appear in problems involving interface cracks that are assumed to have open tips. An unsatisfactory aspect of the oscillatory singularities is that they lead to overlapping of the crack faces. The interface crack in a tension field, originally treated by England among others, is thus reconsidered on the basis ...

An interface crack with mixed electrical conditions at it faces in 1D quasicrystal with piezoelectric effect

Mechanics of Advanced Materials and Structures, 2021
An interface crack in 1D piezoelectric quasicrystalline space is considered. Both conducting and mixed conducting-permeable electric conditions at the crack faces are studied.

On Branched, Interface Cracks

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1981
The problem of branched, external cracks in the interface between two elastic materials is considered under the plane strain condition. A small interface contact region is introduced in the vicinity of each crack tip in order to remove oscillatory singularities.

Roughness of crack interfaces

Physical Review Letters, 1991
The width of the crack interface in the fuse model after breakdown, w, scales with the size of the network, L, as w\ensuremath{\sim}${\mathit{L}}^{\mathrm{\ensuremath{\zeta}}}$. When the disorder is narrow, or when it includes arbitrarily small threshold values, we find that \ensuremath{\zeta}=0.7 to within 10%, indicative of this being a universal ...

A No-Slip Interface Crack

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1980
Adhesive fracture of an interdigitated or very rough interface is investigated by considering an interface crack with no-slip zones. Both the normal and the shear stresses are singular at the crack tip with the Mode II stress-intensity factor being generally smaller than that of the Mode I.

The Fiber-Matrix Interface Crack

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1997
The problem of an interface crack between a circular fiber and the surrounding matrix is considered. The problem is formulated and solved with the help of complex variable methods. It is essential to take into account the existence of contact zones at the crack tips. The solution procedure relies on the use of crack opening displacements as the primary

The Interface Crack Under Combined Loading

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1988
The interface crack subjected to a combined tension-compression and shear loading is considered in the Comninou formulation, which by properly incorporating contact zones at the crack tips avoids contradictions, such as overlapping of material. It is shown that the resulting integral equation can be solved exactly.

Partly Cracked XFEM Interface for Intersecting Cracks

2008
Throughout the last century intense research has been carried out regarding methods to determine the ultimate strength of reinforced concrete structures. Today well documented methods are available for estimating the ultimate strength of most reinforced concrete structures, however, most of these methods requires the use of empirical factors and do not
