Literature Review on Cracks Located at the Interface of Dissimilar Materials (Interface Cracks)

2020
There is a significant breakthrough in use of composite materials in modern technology, construction, mechanical engineering and electronics in the past decade. Such popularity takes place due to ability to achieve required (electro-)mechanical properties of the composite.

Fatigue crack nucleation at interfaces

Materials Science and Engineering: A, 2004
Fatigue crack nucleation at grain boundaries near the endurance limit was examined combining the results of fatigue tests with local orientation measurements and with finite element calculations. Coarse-grained thin sheets were examined in which the orientation and inclination of each boundary could be measured directly.

Crack stability and branching at interfaces

Physical Review B, 1995
The various events that occur at a crack on an interface are explored, and described in terms of a simple graphical construction called the crack stability diagram. For simple Griffith cleavage in a homogeneous material, the stability diagram is a sector of a circle in the space of stress intensity factors, ${\mathit{K}}_{\mathrm{I}}$/${\mathit{K}}_ ...

Embrittlement of Cracks at Interfaces.

MRS Proceedings, 1995
AbstractThis paper presents a synopsis of already published work for cracks on interfaces and new results on the effect of changing the chemistry of the atoms at the interface. Once the appropriate cut-off for the oscillatory singularity in the interface analysis is determined, the physics of the crack is determined in terms of an appropriate driving ...

Interface crack and nonideal interface concept (Mode III)

International Journal of Fracture, 2001
Asymptotic behaviour of displacements and stresses in a vicinity of the interface crack tip situated on a nonideal interface between two different elastic materials is investigated. The nonideal interface is described by special transmission conditions along the material bonding.

Mode III interface crack propagation

Engineering Fracture Mechanics, 1989
Abstract The asymptotic stress and displacement fields of a propagating interface crack under mode III conditions are determined by using the eigenfunction expansion technique. It is found that the well-known square root singularity is unchanged. A moving interface crack of constant length with constant speed is used as a simple illustrative example.
