Variable Stiffness Flexure Structures Enabled by Phase‐Change Gallium and Adhesive Interfacial Locking for Soft Robotic Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A flexure‐based variable stiffness structure is developed by integrating phase‐change modulation and adhesive interfacial locking of gallium. The design enables a wide stiffness variability, transitioning from soft, flexible behavior to rigid, load‐supporting performance.

Microstructural Evolution and Vacancy Defect Formation in Mn–Mo–Ni RPV Steel Under Low Cycle Fatigue: Insights From EBSD and PALS

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐cycle fatigue damage in Mn–Mo–Ni reactor pressure vessel steel is examined using a combined electron backscatter diffraction and positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy approach. The study correlates texture evolution, dislocation substructure development, and vacancy‐type defect formation across uniform, necked, and fracture regions, providing

Two-group interfacial area transport equation for a confined test section

open access: yes, 2001
To provide a closure relation for interfacial area concentration in the two-fluid model, two-group interfacial area transport equation is established, by which the change of interfacial area concentration can be dynamically predicted.

Thermodynamic Pathways of Nonequilibrium Solidification in Wire‐Arc Additive Manufacturing Fe‐Based Multicomponent Alloy Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Geometry‐driven thermal behavior in wire‐arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) influences microstructural evolution during nonequilibrium solidification of a chemically complex Fe–Cr–Nb–W–Mo–C nanocomposite system. By comparing different deposits configurations, distinct entropy–cooling rate correlations, segregation, and carbide evolution are revealed ...

Experimental study on interfacial area transport in downward two-phase flow

open access: yes, 2016
In view of the importance of two group interfacial area transport equations and lack of corresponding accurate downward flow database that can reveal two group interfacial area transport, a systematic database for adiabatic, air-water, vertically ...

A Near-Wall Interfacial Area Concentration Model to Predict Departure From Nucleate Boiling Critical Heat Flux Based on High Speed Video From Boiling Water Flows

open access: yes, 2009
In nucleate boiling as the heat flux from the wall to the fluid is increased the heat transfer coefficient initially increases. At a sufficiently high heat flux called the critical heat flux (CHF) the heat transfer mechanism suddenly becomes less ...

Towards Building a Unified Adsorption Model for Goethite Based on Variable Crystal Face Contributions: III Carbonate Adsorption

open access: yesColloids and Interfaces
Goethite, a ubiquitous Fe(III) oxyhydroxide mineral, typically occurs in very small particle sizes whose interfacial properties critically influence the fate and transport of ionic species in natural systems.

Tailored Hierarchical Porous Copper Architectures via Three Dimensional Printing and Pressure‐less Sintering for Next‐Generation Lithium‐Metal Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A hierarchical porous copper current collector is fabricated via three‐dimensional printing combined with pressureless sintering to stabilize lithium metal anodes. The interconnected architecture lowers local current density, guides uniform Li deposition within pores, and suppresses dendrite growth.
