Thick Silicate Film by an Interfacial Polymerization

Journal of Sol-Gel Science and Technology, 1997
A thick silica gel film, corresponding to the glass film of 10–20 micron in thickness, has been formed at the interface between two immiscible liquids, hexane and water, using E-40, a partially polymerized silicon alkoxide, as the precursor. The film formation was possible using both acid- and base-catalyzed water, but was greatly dependent on the type

Mechanism of interfacial polymerization

Transactions of the Faraday Society, 1969
A study has been made to try to elucidate the locus of polymerization and mechanism of an interfacial polycondensation between sebacoyl chloride and hexamethylenediamine. It is concluded that polymerization occurs in a mixed monolayer of the adsorbed monomers.

Mathematical model for encapsulation by interfacial polymerization

Journal of Membrane Science, 2001
Abstract A general model for encapsulation by diffusion- and reaction-controlled interfacial polymerization under nonsteady-state boundary conditions has been developed. Special models for either diffusion-controlled or reaction-controlled interfacial polymerization under both steady- and nonsteady-state boundary conditions can be obtained by ...

Interfacial Energy Promotes Radical Heterophase Polymerization

Macromolecules, 2004
Experimental evidence is presented that during the conditions of aqueous heterophase polymerization radical generation and subsequent polymerization are induced by the interfacial energy. A comprehensive study of the emulsion polymerization of styrene at 25 °C with various types of emulsifiers and with different nonredox initiators such as potassium ...

Interfacial Thermodynamics of Polymeric Mesophases

Macromolecular Theory and Simulations, 2004
AbstractSummary:A complete mechanical‐thermodynamical formulation for multicomponent nematic polymer‐isotropic fluid interfaces is derived, validated, and used to derive the structure and shape equations for these soft anisotropic polymer interfaces.

Surface and interfacial dynamics of polymeric bilayer films

Physical Review E, 2006
The theory for surface dynamics of the thermally excited fluctuations on a homogenous single-layer film of arbitrary depth is generalized to describe surface and interfacial dynamics of polymeric liquid bilayer films in terms of susceptibilities, power spectra, and characteristic relaxation time constants.

Diacetylene Mixed Langmuir Monolayers for Interfacial Polymerization

Langmuir, 2015
Polydiacetylene (PDA) and its derivatives are promising materials for applications in a vast number of fields, from organic electronics to biosensing. PDA is obtained through polymerization of diacetylene (DA) monomers, typically using UV irradiation. DA polymerization is a 1-4 addition reaction with both initiation and growth steps with topochemical ...

Nanofibers of polyaniline synthesized by interfacial polymerization

Synthetic Metals, 2004
Abstract The average diameter of polyaniline nanofibers obtained by interfacial polymerization using a solution of aniline in toluene as the top organic phase and acidic ammonium peroxydisulfate as the bottom aqueous phase can be controlled by using surface active dopants and/or surfactants in the aqueous phase.
