Bulk and interfacial properties of polar fluids

Berichte der Bunsengesellschaft für physikalische Chemie, 1994
AbstractBased on a suitable density functional theory for inhomogeneous fluids we investigate both the bulk phase diagram and interfacial structures of polar fluids in general and of Stockmayer fluids in particular. We derive a scheme which allows us to analyze one‐component fluids composed of molecules with strong permanent dipole moments which are ...

Interfacial properties of pulmonary surfactant layers

Advances in Colloid and Interface Science, 2005
The composition of the pulmonary surfactant and the border conditions of normal human breathing are relevant to characterize the interfacial behavior of pulmonary layers. Based on experimental data methods are reviewed to investigate interfacial properties of artificial pulmonary layers and to explain the behavior and interfacial structures of the main

Modulation of interfacial properties of functionalized calixarenes

2007
Calix[n]arenes and their amphiphilic derivatives act as strong ligands, by selectively binding cations and small organic molecules (such as chloroform, toluene, fullerene). The presence of a cavity and of specific electron donor sites results in their ability to form stable host—guest systems with electron-acceptor molecules.

Surface and interfacial properties of clomethiazole

International Journal of Pharmaceutics, 1996
Abstract The surface and interfacial properties of clomethiazole (CMZ) were investigated by means of several techniques. Drop-volume measurements showed that CMZ is surface active, with an estimated area per molecule at the aqueous/air surface of about 50 A2. Surface balance experiments revealed that CMZ, originally in the subphase, mixes with spread

Synthesis and Interfacial Properties of Dialkylbenzenesulfonates

Energy Sources, Part A: Recovery, Utilization, and Environmental Effects, 2008
Abstract A new method of synthesis, a series of pure dialkylbenzenesulfonates, is described. The benzene ring carries one major alkyl substituent, consisting of a chain of sixteen carbon atoms long and one additional methyl or ethyl group. Many side reactions were avoided using PPA instead of AlCl3.

Thermophysical Properties of Interfacial Layer in Nanofluids

Langmuir, 2007
Although recent experiments have revealed that nanofluids have superior thermal conductivities to base fluids, the inherent physics are not fully understood. In this study, an interfacial layer, competing with Brownian motion as a corresponding mechanism, is conceptually connected with the surface-charge-induced electrical double layer.

Material Properties and Interfacial Friction

1991
The equations describing the thermal and mechanical events in the roll gap need to be supplemented with appropriate boundary and initial conditions. For the mechanical component these include the resistance to deformation of the metal to be rolled, the frictional forces at the roll-strip interface and the shape of the deformed contact surface ...

Interfacial properties of xanthan gum

1992
Abstract The adsorption characteristics of xanthan gum onto a model substrate, i. e. monodisperse, spherical polystyrene latex, have been studied. Xanthan gum adsorbed onto the polystyrene latex from both aqueous and 0.5 M NaCl solutions and low affinity isotherms were obtained in the both cases. The configuration of the adsorbed polymer
