Engineering Microbial Particles for Next‐Generation Biomedical Platforms

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Microbe‐derived particles (MDPs), which include extracellular vesicles, outer membrane vesicles, inclusion bodies, polysaccharide particles, and virus‐like particles, represent a rapidly expanding category of bioinspired nanomaterials. With their natural origin, intrinsic biocompatibility, and highly programmable functionality, MDPs serve as a ...

Interferon, virus vaccines and antiviral drugs

open access: yes, 2008
The emergence of viruses with zoonotic potential, i.e. with the potential ability to cross species barriers to infect unnatural hosts, poses a huge threat to humans.

Review of methodological approaches to quality evaluation of recombinant interferon products

open access: yesБиопрепараты: Профилактика, диагностика, лечение, 2018
The article summarises methods used to control the quality of recombinant interferon alpha and beta (IFNs) products. It demonstrates that currently used methodological approaches generally ensure proper quality control of this group of medicines. However,

Materials‐Guided Gene‐Ionizable Lipid Nanoparticles to Reverse Iron‐Associated Immune Resistance in Renal Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Iron overload is a common metabolic disturbance in cancer and contributes to poor outcomes in renal cell carcinoma (RCC), yet its effects on the tumour immune microenvironment remain unclear. Here we identify a previously unrecognized immunosuppressive axis in which iron overload downregulates the palmitoyltransferase ZDHHC12 in CD8+ T cells ...

Palmitic Acid Promotes Antiviral Innate Immunity via ZDHHC20‐Mediated CMPK2 Palmitoylation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Metabolites have important functions in innate immune activation and regulation. Wang et al. uncover metabolic regulation of antiviral immunity through CMPK2 palmitoylation, which regulates CMPK2 mitochondrial localization and is promoted by ZDHHC20 but reversed by PPT1, inhibition of which antagonizes viral infection in mice.

Impact of interferon β and interferon stimulated gene induction on Bunyamwera virus replication

open access: yes, 2012
The first line of defence against viral infection is the interferon (IFN) response, which must be overcome by a virus for successful replication. Pattern recognition receptors detect virus which triggers induction of IFNβ.

Activation of interferon regulatory factor-3 via toll-like receptor 3 and immunomodulatory functions detected in A549 lung epithelial cells exposed to misplaced U1-snRNA

open access: yes, 2009
U1-snRNA is an integral part of the U1 ribonucleoprotein pivotal for pre-mRNA splicing. Toll-like receptor (TLR) signaling has recently been associated with immunoregulatory capacities of U1-snRNA.

Secreted Nonstructural Protein 3 is a Pathogenic Determinant of Orbivirus

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study uncovers a conserved PIP2‐dependent secretory pathway of orbivirus NS3 that induces vascular leakage. Pharmacological disruption of PIP2‐NS3 interaction significantly reduces viral pathogenicity and provides protective efficacy in murine models, establishing PIP2‐mediated NS3 secretion as both a key virulence determinant and a promising ...

Recombinant protein synthesis and isolation of human interferon alpha-2 in cyanobacteria

open access: yesCell Signaling
Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803 (Synechocystis) is a unicellular photosynthetic microorganism that has been used as a model for photo-biochemical research. It comprises a potential cell factory for the generation of valuable bioactive compounds, therapeutic proteins, and possibly biofuels. Fusion constructs of recombinant proteins with the CpcA α-subunit or
