Monitoring and Confirmation Method for Submodule IGBT Open‐Circuit Faults in MMCs Under Different Modes

open access: yesIET Power Electronics, Volume 18, Issue 1, January/December 2025.
This paper proposes an effective detection method for insulated gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) open‐circuit faults in multiple modular multilevel converters (MMCs) working in inverter and rectifier modes. This fault detection uses segmental structure and is composed of the fault monitoring and fault confirmation.

Phasor Estimation of Transient Electrical Signals Using Modified Covariance Enhanced Cleaned Characteristic Harmonic Filtering in Protection Relay

open access: yesEnergies
Modern protection relays require accurate and fast phasor estimation under harsh transient conditions, including a decaying DC component, harmonics, interharmonics, noise, and frequency instability.

Impedance‐Based Adaptive Droop Control for Islanded AC Microgrids and Overview

open access: yesInternational Transactions on Electrical Energy Systems, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
Recent improvements in the application of distributed energy resources (DERs) and microgrids (MGs) have made controlling these resources very important. However, there are still many challenges in this field. One of the anticipated challenges in islanded MGs (IMGs) is the mismatched output impedance of DERs, which affects the volt‐var regulation ...

Data‐Driven Deep Learning Algorithm for Harmonics and Interharmonics Flicker Prediction and Mitigation in the Smart Grid System

open access: yesInternational Transactions on Electrical Energy Systems, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
In grid‐connected smart distribution systems, the prediction and mitigation of flicker caused by harmonics and interharmonics present a significant challenge for stable grid operation, particularly in the presence of distributed renewable energy sources (DRESs).

Wavelet-Based Harmonic Magnitude Measurement in the Presence of Interharmonics

open access: yes, 2023
The increasing proliferation of power electronic converters, nonlinear loads, and distributed generation are leading to increased levels of harmonic and interharmonics in power networks.

Effect of Rectangular Voltage Fluctuations on Currents of Single-Phase Induction Motors

open access: yesScientific Journal of Gdynia Maritime University
Various power quality disturbances commonly occur in a power system, including voltage fluctuations. These can be analysed as simultaneous occurrences of voltage subharmonics and interharmonics of various frequencies – components of frequency less than ...

Control System of an SVC Based on ARMA Model to Improve the Displacement Power Factor of an Electric Arc Furnace

open access: yesJournal of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Volume 2025, Issue 1, 2025.
In the steel industry, electric arc furnaces (EAFs) are essential for metal scrap recycling. However, they are known for their high reactive power consumption, negatively impacting power quality (PQ). The static VAR compensator (SVC) is the reactive power compensation device that provides the best cost‐benefit relation for mitigating the impact of EAFs.

The Extent and Limitations of Correlating Measured Interharmonics and Measured Voltage Fluctuations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Amplitude modulation is a well-known cause of voltage fluctuations resulting in luminous lamp flicker. Amplitude modulation can be more generally quantified in terms of interharmonics. The theoretical correlation between interharmonics and lamp flicker

RETRACTED: Cross‐country high impedance fault diagnosis scheme for unbalanced distribution network employing detrended cross‐correlation

open access: yesIET Generation, Transmission &Distribution, Volume 18, Issue 24, Page 4192-4208, December 2024.
The cross‐correlation technique was used in this study to recover the complex, aperiodic, asymmetric, and non‐linear properties of the signals during cross‐country faults with high impedance fault syndrome. Due to its reduced sensitivity to background fluctuations, a given change may not affect all of the component peaks.
