Interlayer functionalization of phyllosilicates.

2009
Tetraalkylammonium cation intercalation into smectites was found to be a useful tool for the study of many aspects of smectite chemistry, including the determination of their internal surface areas and the identification of the mineral composition of Alberta oil sands bitumen.

Interlayer Forces in Bentonite

Clay Minerals, 1953
AbstractAn attempt is being made to analyze the forces between unit layers of a bentonite particle and between the flat surfaces of two particles from colloid chemical data and theory. The electric double-layer interaction, the van der Waals attraction, and the hydration energies are considered. From experimental observations the general qualitative ...

Aluminum in Interlayers of Vermiculite

Soil Science Society of America Journal, 1960
Abstract Aluminum sorbed from N AlCl 3 in the interlayer space of a 2 to 0.2µ fraction of vermiculite was not entirely removed by extensive washing with neutral salt solutions. The amount fixed was increased by heating the Al‐saturated

The Interlayer Binding in Graphite

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1952
The repulsive energy between layers of the graphite crystal has been calculated as an interaction of LCAO molecular orbitals in the layers. The van der Waals attractive term was found by setting the energy minimum to fall at 3.37A. When values of the effective nuclear charge and effective quantum number proposed by Kohlrausch were used, the interlayer ...

LUMINESCENT INTERLAYERS IN DOMANIKITES

Geology and mineral resources of Siberia
The paper considers an elemental and material composition, as well as the origin of thin (2–8 mm) interlayers luminescent in ultraviolet light, which are part of domanic deposits. Sharp differences in their elemental and lithological composition from that of domanic deposits have been revealed.

SURFACE AND INTERLAYER REACTIONS

1995
The extent and charge of the surfaces of clays provides one of their most important features. Hence, it is hardly surprising that many papers presented under this Theme describe properties of clays and modifications of their surfaces which have actual or potential applications in industry or to the improvement of our environment.
