Caesium incorporation and retention in illite interlayers [PDF]
Radioactive caesium (chiefly 137Cs) is a major environmental pollutant. The mobility of Cs in temperate soils is primarily controlled by sorption onto clay minerals, particularly the frayed edges of illite interlayers.

Using Ion Competition to Evaluate the Collapse of Vermiculite Interlayers
The collapse of clay interlayers is an important discussion in soil science. Due to the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant meltdown clay soils in the surrounding area are contaminated with 137Cs.

Diamond Deposition on Iron and Steel Substrates: A Review
This article presents an overview of the research in chemical vapor deposition (CVD) diamond films on steel substrates. Since the steels are the most commonly used and cost-effective structural materials in modern industry, CVD coating diamond films on ...

Interlayer coherence in superconductor bilayers
We investigate the possibility and implications of interlayer coherence in electrically isolated superconducting bilayers. We find that in a mean-field approximation bilayers can have superconducting and excitonic order simultaneously if repulsive interactions between layers are sufficiently strong.

An anomalous interlayer exciton in MoS2 [PDF]
AbstractThe few layer transition metal dichalcogenides are two dimensional materials that have an intrinsic gap of the order of ≈2 eV. The reduced screening in two dimensions implies a rich excitonic physics and, as a consequence, many potential applications in the field of opto-electronics.

Interlayer Exciton Diode and Transistor
Controlling the flow of charge neutral interlayer exciton (IX) quasiparticles can potentially lead to low loss excitonic circuits. Here, we report unidirectional transport of IXs along nanoscale electrostatically defined channels in an MoSe$_2$-WSe$_2$ heterostructure.

Assessment of the Structural State of Dissimilar Welded Joints by the Acoustic Emission Method
In this study, we investigated defect detection in dissimilar welded joints by the acoustic emission (AE) method. The study objects were carbide and decarburized interlayers, which are formed at the fusion boundary between austenitic and pearlitic steels.

Investigation into a Long-Term Interlayer Bonding of Asphalt Pavements
In recent years adhesion testing of pavement layers has gained more and more importance throughout Europe. In a lot of projects the bonding properties are determined after construction and many countries have developed standard requirements which the ...

Stress and Defect Control in GaN Using Low Temperature Interlayers [PDF]
In organometallic vapor phase epitaxial growth of Gail on sapphire, the role of the low- temperature-deposited interlayers inserted between high-temperature-grown GaN layers was investigated by in situ stress measurement, X-ray diffraction, and ...
